HANNAH Whittaker produced another sensational performance to add more silverware to her growing collection at the Flash in the Park 10K Trail Race on Sunday.

A week of incessant rain made for testing conditions at Pennington Flash Country Park, but Whittaker skipped effortlessly across the mud to record a commanding victory in a time of 43:19.

Next home for the ladies was the fast finishing Ann Johnson, who stormed to an excellent finish in 49:47. Karen Harrison and Joanne Mercer battled the elements together, completing the course in 1:13.

For the men, Philip Lawrenson was first Strider to cross the line in a hugely impressive 42:40 for 10th place overall. Snapping at his heels throughout the race was the ultra-consistent Eric Ranson who chased Lawrenson home for 12th place in 42:54. Finishing as third Strider, Craig Whittaker completed a memorable morning for the Whittaker family as he followed up his wife's stunning victory with a new trail 10k PB in 43:59. John Barr (50:26), Brendan Bourne (51:00) and Paul Carr (58.40) also performed well for the men.

It was not only the Striders' runners who did the club proud at the race. Club stalwarts Katie Taggart and Pete Medlicott played key roles in organising and promoting the race, and the success of the day was testament to their dedication and enthusiasm in the running community.

Lone Strider at the Horwich 5k was Rachael Fairclough, who continued her sparkling recent form with a 2nd place finish in a fleet-footed 19:23.

Anita Hall travelled north of the border to take part in the MHOR 84 Half Marathon in the Scottish village of Balquiddher. After dodging some inquisitive deer on the mountainous course, Hall crossed the line in a dogged 2:14 for the tough 13.1 mile route.

Ben Lawrenson also took on the half marathon distance in Freckleton, Lancashire, coming away with a highly creditable time of 2:44

The idyllic environs of Port Sunlight were the scene for a determined 5k performance by Debs Hill. She delighted her friends and family as she completed the course in 35:43. There was success for Danny Fegan in the 10K race as he completed the picturesque route in 43:23, earning an impressive 3rd place in the V50 category.
