FAIRBANK United Juniors have fired themselves to an unprecedented double after claiming the Phoenix Cup.

The U13s side capped of a magnificent season by adding the cup to a cabinet that already contains the league title from this season.

Manager Mohammed Yasser was unable to attend the final - against BD3 United - due to work commitments.

But, the Fairbank family rallied round to help coach Hasnain Hussain lead the boys to glory.

It was a cagey affair in the first-half with Fairbank and BD3 cancelling each other out.

The deadlock was broken at the midpoint when a penalty was awarded for hand-ball against BD3.

Adam Choudry stepped up and coolly converted to make it 1-0.

Fairbank began to play with a lot more freedom, but had Hamza Ismail to thank just before half-time.

His last ditch tackle helped dispossess the BD3 forward after they made a quick break.

Anas Hanif and former BD3 boy Zain Hashim impressed with their dynamism in midfield and it was their efforts that led to Fairbank's second.

Space was created for Samar Iqbal to ply his magic and his through ball reached winger Waleed Imran who collected well before lobbing the oncoming keeper.

BD3 hit back soon after though with a strike from the edge of the area that flew into the corner to make it 2-1.

This gave them a surge of confidence and they penned Fairbank back.

But, the heroics of Fairbank's defensive line - which included Mohammed Seeth, Hamza Ismail and twins Adam and Isa Choudry - kept the wave of BD3 attacks at bay.

The league champions were then able to add a vital third through captain Danish Mahmood.

Having been a constant thorn in the BD3 side on the right wing, he popped up on the left and scored a belter from 25 yards out.

Fairbank took it out of reach in the dying embers of the game.

Two substitutes united to make it 4-1, when Mohammed Esa executed a lovely through-ball for Mohammed Sufiyaan to finish.

Aziz Rehman, Head of the Girlington Muslim Welfare Association - the principle sponsors of the club - was delighted with the victory.

He said: "The coaches and players have worked really hard this season, and fully deserve their success.

"We hope to continue supporting a club which provides much needed activities for young people in our local area"

Raja Hussain of QuoteUs Commericial Insurance and sponsors of the U13's also congratulated the team and club on their success.

He said: "The team plays around the corner from our offices and we were more than happy to aid the club in its endeavours to continue to provide services to the community.

"Well done to the players on a wonderful performance."
