MATTHEW Dempsey scored the only goal of the game as Oakenshaw lifted the Bradford Sunday Alliance Senior Cup to deny opponents Crossflatts Village the chance of a second successive treble.

His goal in a lively affair at Campion was worthy of winning any cup final and it came direct from a free-kick with just five minutes to go before half-time.

The impressive Dempsey’s right-foot shot from the edge of the box evaded the wall and the despairing dive of Village goalkeeper Dan Thorpe, and arrowed passed him into the corner of the net.

Having already won the Sunday Alliance title, Crossflatts were hoping to win the Senior Cup for a second straight campaign.

Their players will now have to lick their wounds and prepare for this Sunday’s Keighley & District FA Cup final against Sandy Lane, which is being held at Silsden, as they look to retain it in a repeat of last year’s final that they won 3-0.

Crossflatts won the treble last season after winning the Alliance Championship but the glory belonged to Oakenshaw on Sunday.

Elsewhere there was a limited league programme as the remaining fixtures of the season are fulfilled.

In the Premier Division, Olympic sealed runners-up spot with an emphatic 8-2 victory at Sandy Lane.

Westwood Park can match their points tally in their remaining game at home to Oakenshaw on Sunday but have a vastly inferior goal difference.

Goals from Tristain Innes and Chris Mitchell gave Championship side Prospect a 2-0 win over AFC Wibsey in the final of the mini-tournament being run by the league.

In Division One, Park Pub were 3-2 winners at home to East Bierley despite goals from Jonny Irving and Josh Mortimer for the visitors.

Niall Kaye scored a hat-trick for Eccleshill Lane Ends as they warmed up for their Intermediate Cup final date on Sunday with a convincing 8-2 win at AFC Prince of Orange.

Craig Kaye, Matthew Belwood, Adam Milner, Daniel Patefield and Harvey Tate were also on target for the Division Two runners-up.

It promises to be a mouthwatering encounter when they take on champions Mill Lane for cup silverware at the weekend.
