MARK Bower hopes history repeats itself as his Bradford (Park Avenue) side prepare for a pressure-filled final day of the season.

Avenue travel to second-placed Chorley tomorrow occupying the final play-off spot in seventh on goal difference. But AFC Telford United are breathing down Avenue's necks, level on points in eighth place, and visit York City.

Chorley themselves have a massive incentive to beat Avenue, as they are gunning for the title and are just one point behind current leaders Stockport County, who face rock bottom Nuneaton Borough.

Bradford will need to either match Telford’s result at a strong York City, or better in-form Blyth’s result at home to Southport. Blyth are just a point above Avenue in fifth spot.

As if things could not be any tighter, Avenue and Blyth have the same goal difference, with Telford just a goal worse.

Bower's men have been in the top-seven mix all season, and even held top spot for a while, but a 1-0 loss at Darlington on Good Friday, followed by a 3-1 home defeat to York City on Easter Monday, has left their promotion hopes on a last-day knife edge.

Avenue secured a play-off spot on the final day of last season after they grabbed a last-gasp 2-1 win at Kidderminster Harriers and Bower hopes Lady Luck will again favour his charges 12 months on.

He said: "It always goes to the last day with me, it seems. We've been in this position before.

"I'd like for it to be more comfortable, but we are going for it in the last game again. If you'd said at the start of the season we'd be in this position before the last day, I would have snapped your hands off. It is a good game to be involved in.

"It's a strange one; we could lose and go into the play-offs, or we could win and not go into the play-offs. There are a few permutations.

"The lads on the pitch need to concentrate on what they are doing. We will be staying in touch with other games and making sure we make the right changes in our game.

"We go there capable of getting a result. It has not quite been going for us the last few weeks. But we are where we are.

"I expect Chorley to come at us early doors to put pressure on Stockport. I expect Stockport to get the win. Realistically they are going to Nuneaton who are bottom of the league and they have lost a few games in a row.

"We will see what happens. Pressure on Chorley might be a good thing for us.

"I would love to be playing in it but those days are gone. This is what you want to be involved in, being nervous all week and I want Saturday to come.

"We were really good on Monday against a massive club in York. They have the makings of a team that will win the league next year.

"It has been a rollercoaster over the last couple of seasons.

"If we can do it, it will be an unbelievable feeling for us at 5pm on Saturday.

"It has been a really, really good season for us."
