CAMPION remain 'quietly confident' for their winner-takes-all title clash in Northern Counties East League Division One tomorrow.

The Heaton side travel to Grimsby Borough in a first-versus-second shoot-out for promotion in the final game of the season.

Crucially, leaders Campion have a point advantage, meaning a draw would be suffice for them to clinch top spot and guarantee promotion to the Premier Division.

Secretary Dave Keegan said: "We're quietly confident. The pressure is more on them."

Campion drew their penultimate fixture 1-1 at Shirebrook Town this week, while Grimsby - who Eccleshill United beat to promotion in the play-off final last season - beat Ollerton Town 2-1.

After Aiden Day had given Campion the lead, hosts Shirebrook earned a share of the spoils with an equaliser from Robbie Savage.

But victory for Grimsby, who have a superior goal difference, took the title race to the wire regardless of Campion's result.

Whoever loses, is guaranteed runners-up spot but it remains unclear whether that will secure promotion.

An FA reshuffle means there are limited places at step five level in the tier above Campion.

Keegan said: "We've been told there will be nine or ten places available for step six clubs nationwide which will be based on a points per game ratio."

Farsley's bid for the title has also gone down to the last day in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division.

The Celts thought they had it in the bag on Easter Monday after their win over Whitby Town, only for Luke Daly to strike in the fifth minute of injury-time to give South Shields a 3-2 win over Scarborough Athletic.

The Yorkshiremen are still heavy favourites, holding a three-point lead going into the final day when they host Marine and South Shields travel to Gainsborough.

Back in the NCEL, Albion Sports aim to end on a high at Bottesford having gained revenge on neighbours Eccleshill United in midweek.

They suffered a 3-2 home loss last month but grabbed the local bragging rights at Eccleshill with a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Luke Aldrich (2) and Eddie Church.
