The Bulls will get the best of both worlds next season, according to new signing Wayne Godwin.

The former Castleford star has arrived as back-up for Great Britain hooker Terry Newton, the role he operated when they featured together at Wigan in 2005.

Godwin eventually moved to Hull in search of greater opportunities but reckons there is room for each to make their mark at Bradford.

"It's going to be great being back with Tez," said the England A international.

"I've played with him before and know what he's all about.

"I see it being two nines playing alongside each other rather than those who say I'm an understudy.

"It worked together at Wigan and we both offer something different."

Godwin replaces fans' favourite Ian Henderson, who has now headed to New Zealand Warriors.

Although the Australian was a real menace zipping out of dummy half, Godwin is seen as a more rounded footballer and is expected to prove a quality ally for Newton.

He hoped to mix it up with veteran New Zealand Test No 9 Richard Swain at Hull but that experiment backfired even before the experienced rake retired mid-season.

"One of the reasons I left Wigan was so I could spend a year with Swainy," Godwin admitted.

"He's a quality player but things didn't really work out as a success with him coming off and me going on.

"He was more of an 80-minute man and was getting the majority of game time."

Godwin was initially supposed to be groomed as Swain's successor for next year but, after hitting injury problems of his own, Hull splashed out on Australian Test star Shaun Berrigan instead for 2008.

"It was frustrating and an up and down season but I don't think I've gone backwards or anything," said Godwin, who showed his genuine talent in victories over Leeds and Huddersfield towards the end of the campaign.

"Bradford like to play two nines and that suits me.

"Terry is a quality player, a big leader, great decision-maker, who carries the ball well and is a good organiser.

"I got on with him really well at Wigan and he's a great bloke too who loves the banter - youve got to watch your back sometimes!

"I know Wigan were gutted when he left as he had a great year after that and I'm looking forward to hooking up with him again at Odsal.

"I think Steve (McNamara) will improve me as a player too and I'm still only 25.

"I feel fresh and can't wait to get going here."
