“TOGETHER everyone achieves more” – a call for solidarity as Gary Bowyer embarks on the next daunting challenge of his managerial career.

The job of trying to piece together such a fractured club is not one for the faint-hearted.

But the good humour of the City boss does not mask a strong determination to begin repairing the mess he inherited a month ago.

And key to that rebuilding process is mending the divisions on and off the field that built up during the destructive reign of Edin Rahic.

That’s why securing Bowyer on a permanent deal as early as possible was seen as crucial to maximise the time to get that recovery work in place.

There can be no repeat of the vacuum that existed at the end of last season when Simon Grayson made it clear he wanted no further part of the club unravelling around him.

Bowyer is one of the minority of managers on Twitter – a bold call given the potentially poisonous waters of social media.

He is wise enough not to be drawn into every random comment that will inevitably fly his way after a game.

But he did use the platform to tell fans how “absolutely buzzing” he was to get the two-year contract done and dusted this week.

Bowyer is eager to put roots down in a role that has been more turbulent than any in the past 14 months. A longer-term contract to supersede the one he signed for the rest of this season is the first part of that.

“It was something I wanted at the beginning but I understood the reasons why,” he said. “It’s going to be a big summer so the sooner that we could get everything agreed and settled gives clarity for everybody.

“For anybody who has had success in football in any league, it comes from stability. Constant change doesn’t do anything.

“There are some fantastic people that work down at Valley Parade and in and around the training ground.

“There’s a good structure in place now with Julian (Rhodes). The fact that he is staying was a big part of my decision as well.

“I’ve got a good working relationship with him already and can see he’s passionate for the club to do well. That’s half the battle when you’ve got someone with his knowledge and expertise.”

Bowyer is already dividing his thinking between the "here and now" and what the summer will bring. The lure of the club’s name is helping to attract interest from agents offering players, whichever division City may be in.

But he insists the current side are only focused on the present as they head into a critical Yorkshire derby with sixth-placed Doncaster.

Bowyer added: “The players haven’t admitted they are looking at next season. They are concentrating on going game-by-game because football changes so quickly.

“I was at Bury versus Cambridge on Tuesday night. Everybody outside of Cambridge’s dressing room expected Bury to win because they were second in the league.

“But it didn’t happen. There are no guarantees and while there is the possibility, I’m still a big believer that we can do something this season.

“The here and now is obviously important because I’m of the belief that we can still get out the mess we find ourselves in.

“At the same time, I’m already looking at the summer because we know it’s going to be massive for the club. It’s imperative we get that right.”
