ST BEDE'S experienced dozen delight in their Yorkshire Amateur League Championship promotion chase.

The Bradford side were looking for victory when hosting relegation candidates Mount St Mary's in an attempt to move into second place with games running out.

They duly delivered and sent a real message to their top-of-the-table rivals with a 12-1 win.

St Mary's were unfortunate in that Bede's had all three strikers available for the first time this season and terrifying trio put the visitors to the sword by scoring 10 of their side's 12 goals.

Andy McHugh got five, Championship top-scorer Jermaine Moyce hit four, and Sam Marshall got a sole goal to round-off the attacking spearhead's tally.

Carl Lomax and Ian Horrocks got the other two.

Bedes started well and took the lead when a wonderful cross by Joe Byerley found Horrocks at the back post who headed back the way it came to open the scoring.

Bedes scored the second when McHugh hit a shot that was too hot handle and then Moyce was first to react to score the second.

Five-star McHugh scored the third with an effort from 25 yards.

The away side got their only goal of the game from a soft penalty, leaving the tie at a respectable 3-1 heading into the break.

Bedes knocked it up a gear in the second period, providing a feast of high quality finishing with nine goals.

The win keeps pressure on second-placed Morley Town, who won at home to Leeds Independent but do have a game in hand on Bedes.

It was a tale of close-fought, high-scoring affairs in the local action in the other divisions - with none of the matches ending with less than six goals.

The honours were even in both Idle's Division One fixture and Division Three Prospect's tie.

It was five goals apiece as title-challengers Idle came up short against bottom-placed Leeds Medics & Dentists.

Idle are in with a shout of promotion and even a shot at top spot with three games in hand on second and first, sitting only six points off first, but points on the board are important at this stage and the manner of the loss will frustrate them.

The hosts were 2-0 up initially, but Leeds fought to make it 3-2 in their favour.

Idle then scored three to push themselves into the lead again, but a grand and energetic Leeds fightback saw the score end 5-5.

Aaron Irving scored a hat-trick on his return to the Idle starting eleven, with top-scorer Jack Strudwick and Tom Simonett bagging the other goals.

Prospect made it five draws in seven as the score finished 4-4 for their visit to Ealandians.

Jack Barker, with a brace, and a Jordan Farrell goal gave the visitors a 3-0 lead, but that was reduced to 3-1 come the break.

Ealandians eventually equalised in second half, before Prospect were ahead again courtesy of Kingsley Rowe.

But, a late final leveller from the home side put to bed any hopes of three points.

In Division Two, it was two out of two wins for local sides.

Fairbank United beat Trinity Old Boys five goals to three in their tie.

Fairbank, once again, had their squad stretched to the limit due to injuries.

Injured reserve goalkeeper Hamza Shazad was forced to play along with a number of others who made up the walking wounded, but they still managed a win.

Tyersal were a goal behind after ten minutes, in their 4-3 win at Leeds City Reserves.

But, once they had a foot-hold in the game they came to life, winning a penalty for Chris Gibbons to convert before going on to secure the victory.

In the Premier Division, Athletico suffered a blow to their survival hopes with a damning 5-0 defeat away to league-leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors.

But, with neither of the bottom two clubs playing at the weekend, the Bradford side remain just outside the relegation zone.
