FOLLOWING their excellent late comeback in midweek to win their derby with Eccleshill United, Thackley slumped to a heavy 4-1 defeat at Maltby Main.

Their hosts were ninth in the top tier of the Northern Counties East League but they climbed to seventh although the Dennyboys didn’t lose any ground as they remain in 13th place.

Main seized the initiative with a penalty soon after the half hour mark, Aaron Moxam beating Dennyboys’ keeper Luke Wilson from 12 yards.

But Thackley were denied a spot-kick of their own later in the half when they felt striker Ray Sibanda had been fouled in the area.

The home side doubled their lead four minutes into the second half when Moxam bagged his brace.

On a frustrating afternoon for Thackley, at a windswept Muglet Lane, Main extended their lead on the breakaway through Cam Rigby and Moxam went on to turn his brace into a hat-trick.

There was a consolation strike for the Dennyboys. Sibanda found the top corner of James Pollard’s net three minutes into stoppage time.
