STEETON’S wait for a win in Hallmark Security League Division One North goes on after a narrow 1-0 defeat at Chadderton’s ARK Fleetech Stadium which saw the Greater Manchester side leapfrog the Chevrons.

Roy Mason’s men played a quarter of the game with 10 men after Tim Hird picked up a second yellow card midway through the second-half.

Hird had picked up his first booking early in the first-half, a half that ended with the home side a goal to the good.

Chadderton’s Jack Ward scored the game’s only goal three minutes before the break, soon after he had also got himself in the referee’s notebook.

The Chevrons had fashioned a half chance in the first-half, home keeper Jordan Hadlow comfortably gathering Aaron Hollindrake’s header from a Toby Jeffrey corner, and another chance of note in the second-half when Toby Rawcliffe shot over the target after Ben Clarkson’s through ball.

It could have been worse for the Chevrons as the 10 men conceded a penalty, but keeper Fletcher Paley came to the rescue, making a fine save.

Mason used all three of his substitutes as he went in search of an equaliser but a goal proved to be elusive and the home side displaced Steeton who are now in 15th spot.

The last time the Chevrons tasted victory was in late November, they were 3-0 winners at Atherton LR with Andy Briggs bagging a hat-trick.
