ECCLESHILL United won a closely-contested derby as Albion Sports welcomed their Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division neighbours to their rented home of Throstle Nest.

The visitors had the bragging rights in terms of league position, Sean Regan’s Eagles are 11th, while Kulwinder Sandhu’s Lions are 17th, but in a typical local skirmish pecking order counted for nothing.

It was the visitors who broke the deadlock as Matt Mathers pounced to lash the ball into the net after set-piece led to a goalmouth scramble.

The home side equalised when a promising counter attack ended with a through ball to Luke Aldrich and he steered it past the Eagles’ keeper.

Just five minutes into the second-half Eccleshill skipper Charlie Flaherty raced onto the end of an Andy Cooper cross to head his side back in front. They were pegged back again just 10 minutes later, conceding a penalty that Alhassane Keita drilled into the top corner.

The home side almost got in front just after the hour mark when Mathers sliced an attempted clearance onto the crossbar and was relived to see Eagles’ keeper Harry Stead make an excellent save from the rebound.

The five-goal thriller was settled with minutes remaining when a Josh Grant cross was chipped over the home keeper by Khurram Shazad.

Liversedge gained revenge for a recent defeat at home to relegation threatened Goole AFC with a 2-0 victory at the Vikings.

Sedge got off to a good start as Alfie Raw drilled in an eighth-minute penalty to give them the lead. They always looked like bringing all three points back with them, but Emile Sinclair put the gloss on their win with a last-minute strike.

Thackley were on the wrong end of a revenge attack as high-flying Bridlington Town won 3-1 at Dennyfield.

Third-placed Brid, who are five points off the top with two games in hand, took just three minutes to break the deadlock, Jake Day on target. The Dennyboys hit back through Jack Normanton midway through the first-half but the Seasiders responded as Joe McFadyen ensured they went into the break a goal to the good.

McFadyen bagged his brace in the 65th minute to keep the east coast outfit in with a chance of the title, just weeks after suffering a 4-0 home defeat to Pat McGuire’s men.

Campion lost the leadership of Division One following a shock 3-0 defeat at basement outfit FC Bolsover.

The Red and Blacks never recovered from a poor start that saw the home side two goals up in the seventh minute. Cameron Hough opened the scoring in the third minute and Reece Lucas added soon after.

The visitors tried to get a foothold in the game but a third for the home side, from Lewis Warwick 10 minutes after the break, ended their hopes.

Campion are now second on goal difference but new leaders Grimsby Borough have played a game more.
