JERMAINE Anderson is hoping for a double reason to celebrate come the end of the season.

The midfielder has two goals for now – keep City in League One and earn himself a new deal.

Anderson’s arrival in last month’s transfer window was on a short-term basis after cancelling his Peterborough contract to commit to Valley Parade until the summer.

The 22-year-old took the plunge with the aim that it can lead to something longer.

And Anderson is happy to put team before personal gain to hopefully achieve that.

He said: “The main focus is to keep Bradford City as a League One club. That’s where they should be – or even higher.

“That’s what we are all working for and the contract is more of an incentive than anything for me. I don’t feel that there’s any more pressure.

“Contracts are what you play for. You want to work hard regardless but even more so when you know that’s around the corner.

“But it’s great to be involved now, especially when you’ve got the fans behind you like last week. The place was rocking.

“That’s a nice feeling and gives you the extra push.”

The away end at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium will be just as vibrant for a match-up with huge implications.

City could end the day above their hosts and out of the drop zone – or in growing trouble ahead of a March schedule packed with potential nasties.

Having had a taste of it against Plymouth last week, Anderson is eyeing more involvement and is confident the Bantams can extend the misery of the free-falling Saddlers.

He added: “I think we’ll do well. We’ve been working hard all week and you can see the boys are up for it to get the three points.

“You want to be trying to nick points off teams around you. You can build your own confidence up while taking some off them. That’s definitely the plan.”

City have been a fixture in the bottom four since Anderson came in. But he has seen enough from the players around him to stick his neck out with a bold prediction that they will survive.

“A hundred per cent!” he smiled. “We’ve got a great bunch of lads who are willing to work hard and push each other in training every day.

“We’ve got a lot of senior players in the dressing room who know how football goes. I’m sure we will be fine.

“Everybody is level headed. There are obviously going to be ups and downs but we’re all very confident we can start picking up the results we need.”

Anderson’s attitude has impressed Hopkin, who praised him this week for not complaining about his lack of opportunities so far.

The midfielder, who could be given a more forward role by the Bantams boss, refuses to be ground down by the club’s perilous position. He’s not one for scouring over the league table.

Anderson said: “I don’t personally do that. We’ll just come in every day, work and train properly and then I’m pretty sure everything else will take care of itself.

“It’s very tight but that’s how League One is at the moment. Teams are picking up points around us but others are dropping them and we just have to focus on ourselves.”
