WIBSEY gave their survival hopes a big boost with a 5-1 win at Calverley in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division.

The victory lifted them off the bottom above Stanley United and put them level with Stanningley Old Boys, who have played a game more.

Calverley took an early lead with a Ben Cook header from an inswinging corner and missed another couple of chances before Wibsey made them pay.

Danny O'Donnell latched onto a ball over the top to level before the break and a similar move saw Wibsey take the lead in the second half.

O'Donnell was brought down by the centre half, who was shown a second yellow card, and from the resultant free-kick, Jordan Northin rifled home with a fantastic strike from 30 yards.

O'Donnell got a third for Wibsey before Calverley had another player sent off. The visitors capitalised as O'Donnell banged in two more goals to end with four.

Third-placed Drighlington maintained their challenge with a 1-0 win at Alwoodley thanks to a goal by leading scorer Shane Sowden.

Leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Leeds Medics & Dentists, Alex Gyte with a second-half equaliser for the hosts.

The match between Athletico and Stanley Utd was abandoned after 65 minutes with the hosts Athletico leading 4-2.

The League will await the verdict of the West Riding County FA before passing comment.

St Bede's' challenge at the top of the Championship was dealt a blow with a 3-1 loss at Leeds Medics & Dentists Reserves.

Bedes took a deserved lead when a cross from star man Sam Marshall found goalscorer supreme Jermaine Moyce, who nodded in at the back post.

The third-placed side might have increased their lead but Medics levelled before the break though Sverrir Kristinsson from a corner.

The Medics man put the home side in front after 70 minutes and, despite Bedes dominating the closing stages, Kristinsson put the game to bed by clinching his hat-trick.

With games in hand, fourth-placed Idle are pushing hard for promotion from Division One and they boosted their hopes with a 1-0 win at home to Whitkirk Wanderers thanks to a Jack Strudwick penalty after Tom Simonett was fouled in the box late in the second half.

Fairbank United gave Division Two leaders Colton Athletic an almighty scare before the hosts came back to win 4-3.

Shoaib Hussain broke the deadlock with an excellent run and finish and the Bradford visitors extended their lead when Hussain Iqbal found veteran Akif Waseem, who turned sharply and dispatched from close range.

Colton pulled one back after the break but Fairbank restored their two-goal cushion with a well-taken finish from Junaid Ali.

However, with eight minutes on the clock, Colton mounted a stunning comeback culminating in Josh Naylor's long-range finish in stoppage time to give them all three points.

Goals from Liam Goodaire and Jordan Farrell saw Prospect claim a 2-0 win at Tingley Athletic in Division Three.
