Liversedge 1, South Normanton Athletic 1
A dominant second half was not enough to earn Liversedge a much-needed three points in their first league game in a month.
Normanton created the first real opening just before the half-hour mark when a quick free-kick was latched onto by Joel Hodgkinson but his shot bobbled wide. The visitors then had the ball in the net only for the pacey Vladimir Santos-Farrell to be flagged offside. Minutes later, Sedge took the lead when a corner to the far post was nodded cleverly back across goal by captain Daryll Leach to be headed in by one of the smallest men in the box, Damian Melvin.
The hosts' lead lasted until the last kick of the half. A corner towards the front post caused confusion between Sedge's back-line and goalkeeper Lee Ashforth, who tried to punch away, but simply gifted Nick Guislanzone with a volleyed equaliser.
Sedge saved their best football for the second half but couldn't find a breakthrough.
Paul Smith forced a good save from the keeper and Joe Hewitt disguised a beautiful throughball to sub Andy Markham, whose by-line cross created a goal-line scramble.
Not for the first time, Jordan Maltas beat his opposing defender but his lay-off to Smith was put over the bar and the hosts had to settle for a point.
