IT was a tale of winter woe in the Yorkshire Amateur League with only six games taking place across all seven divisions due to the weather.

The pick of the limited weekend's offerings was at Bradford Academy for a Premier Division top-of-the-table battle between Farsley Celtic Juniors an Drighlington.

Leaders Farsley extended their unbeaten run and put six points between them and visitors and title holders Drighlington with a 2-1 victory.

In the fifth minute the razor sharp Shane Sowden became the leading scorer in the Prem with his opening goal for the visitors helped by a keeper error.

There was an immediate reaction from Farsley and a shot from a free kick was saved by Drig's outfield player Mark Beal, with the referee blowing for a penalty

Spot kick king Joe Firth converted to take it to 1-1.

Farsley gained further advantage midway through the half when Drig's Ben Small was sent off.

From then on Drighlington played what they felt was their best football of the season and matching Farsley who were intent on not falling for a Drighlington sucker punch.

Drig would have happy to earn a point at his late stage in the proceedings but with 10 minutes left Alex Reid hammered home the vital winner from the edge of the area for Farsley Celtic Juniors.

Drighlington remain third but their challenge for top spot is sliding, with fourth-placed Leeds Medics & Dentists only behind by three points with a game in hand.

In Division Four, St Bede's Reserves succumbed to a 2-0 loss at home to North Leeds Reserves.

The visitors were without a win in five before the weekend's fixture.

Division One Idle have had their West Riding County Challenge Trophy tie at Snydale Athletic brought forward to February 9.
