CALUM Woods hopes to tap into Stephen Darby’s knowledge of City after jumping on board their survival fight.

Woods cannot wait to get started after joining until the end of the season from Preston.

The defender began his career in the Liverpool academy at the same time as City "history-maker" Darby.

And he intends to catch up with him for some tips about playing for the club.

Woods said: “He’s a couple of years younger than me but I know Darbs really well.

“I’m obviously devastated what has happened to him but I’m sure he’s only got good things to say about Bradford.

“I haven’t had chance to speak to him since I signed. But hopefully we can catch up and I can have a word about what it’s like at Bradford.

“I know he’s a legend there because he did really well and he’s always been a great lad.”

Woods is keen to kick-start his season after being limited to just one sub appearance in the Championship and a start in the Carabao Cup.

“I’m itching to get started in training,” he added.

“I’m really happy to have made the move. I’m feeling fit in myself.

“I haven’t played as much as I’d like to this season so hopefully this is an opportunity to play a lot more.

“I had a couple of niggles that kept me out the team but I’m hoping I can get a run at Bradford.

“I first knew about their interest just over a week ago. As soon as I heard I could go there, it was what I wanted to do so I was delighted to get it sorted.”

Woods has twice been promoted from the third tier under former Bantams boss Simon Grayson, who gave his old club a glowing reference for the full back.

“I know he was only here for a short spell but I’ve got a lot to thank Simon for,” said Woods.

“I played a lot for him and enjoyed it, winning a couple of promotions for Huddersfield and Preston.

“I’m experienced with playing at both ends of the table. I’ve also been in teams in the Championship when we’ve been fighting to stay up.

“We’re not at that point yet, it’s only halfway through the season.

“I’m hoping to show my experience when I do get the chance and bring my qualities to the team.”

Naturally right-footed, Woods can play across the defence – and has been earmarked by City to compete with Adam Chicksen and Connor Wood for the left-back role.

It is a position that the 31-year-old is very comfortable with.

“I’ve probably played as much of my career at left back. It doesn’t bother me.

“Hopefully I can bring some versatility to the team. I can play anywhere across the back but mainly full back.

“I’ve often gone through spells of playing at left back – and did that when I played in two play-off finals. I enjoy playing there.

“I’ll work as hard as I can every day and give it my all every time I step on the pitch.

“I haven’t played at Valley Parade before. I was actually on the bench a few years ago with Huddersfield.

“But I remember the atmosphere was great and I’m chomping at the bit to get out there.

“I’ve been looking round the changing room and there’s a really good squad of players here.

“It’s obviously not where we want to be in the table but hopefully starting from Saturday we can push on again.

“The last couple of results haven’t been ideal and we need to put those games behind us.”
