A THRILLING Bradford derby saw a former county cup winner book their place in this season’s quarter-finals.

The delayed West Riding County FA Sunday Cup tie between Bradford Sunday Alliance sides West Bowling and Olympic FC saw Bowling progress.

West won 3-2 despite a shaky start when they gave a penalty away after just 10 minutes. Olympic missed the spot-kick, but Steve Hollingworth made no mistake when they were awarded another penalty to make it 1-0 at the break.

At the start of the second half Bowling’s Wayne Sparkes found Paul Hague in the box and he calmly stroked the ball into the net for the equaliser.

Bowling full back Paul Helliwell then took his side into the lead with a wonderful effort that began in his own half. Helliwell took on the defence before slotting in.

Bowling struck again after a superb shot from leading scorer Joe Jagger but their early nerves returned when Mattias Britton scored from closed range for Olympic in the last few minutes.

It wasn’t enough and West Bowling now move through to the quarter-finals when they will play away at FC Walkers Hounds on February 3.

Meanwhile, Crossflatts Village put five past Wyke Wanderers in the Bradford Sunday Alliance Premier Division, leaving with a 5-1 win which keeps them in second place at the top of the league.

They had five different scorers: Connor Erangey, Mick Garnett, James Gill, Ollie Metcalfe and Craig Morris.

Sandy Lane and Oakenshaw enjoyed a seven-goal thriller which the south Bradford visitors won 4-3 thanks to Patrick Sykes, who hit a brace in both halves.

This victory put Oakenshaw into third position.

Bolton Woods went goal crazy in an 11-3 win at Thornton United, with Matthew Addy and Andrew McHugh both netting hat-tricks.

In the Championship, AFC Titans hit three without reply at AFC Wibsey, all the goals coming in the first half with Paul Hickey bagging a brace.

Keighley Town enjoyed a 5-1 win over Heaton Athletic to remain in pole position, while Tyersal and Northern shared the points and six goals in a tight encounter.

In Division One, Peacock Bar hit five without reply at Beldon Oddies to remain top of the table.

Runaway Division Two leaders Mill Lane won 2-1 at Drop Kick to claim their 16th win out of 16.

In Division Three, Black Swan got their second victory of the season at Hunsworth.

Goal scorers were Oliver Williams, with a firm strike at the far post from Liam Cunningham’s cross, and Cameron Smithurst, with a tap-in after beating the goalkeeper to Kyle Smith’s through ball.
