FOR the second time in a weekend in a row, Athletico came close against top of the table opposition.

The Bradford side played third-placed Grangefield Old Boys in Saturday's round of fixtures in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division.

Athletico, who are struggling at the foot of the table, were under pressure from the whistle and went 1-0 down to a Brandon Baldwin goal.

Despite continued Grangefield domination, Athletico managed to grab an equaliser before half-time.

Adeeb Jawad curled an effort into the top corner after a pass from the left fell neatly for the midfielder.

Grangefield eventually took advantage of the chances they were creating, to win the game 2-1.

James Kemp with a sublime volley from 25-yards out after a corner was cleared momentarily by Athletico.

A win for fellow relegation candidates, Calverley United, has left Athletico perilously close to the drop zone and are currently only avoiding it by virtue of goal difference.

That close relegation six pointer for Calverley against Stanley United saw the Owls battle to win 4-3.

There were five goals in the first half, which ended 3-2 to Calverley thanks to a Tom Westerman free-kick.

Calverley's Ben Cook seemingly calmed nerves to take it to 4-2 in the second 45, but it was squeaky bum time in the 88th minute when Stanley put away a penalty to make it 4-3.

The owls held firm though and it means they move up four positions to seventh, highlighting how tight it is at the bottom in the Premier Division.

There was more cup action this week and there was a mammoth clash in the Terry Marflitt Quarter Final.

It was an unsurprisingly tight affair between Premier Division front runners, Farsley Celtic Juniors and Drighlington, with one goal settling it.

Drighlington's leading scorer, Shane Sowden, bagged the winner for a 1-0 win, meaning they now have a Semi-Final to look forward to.

Championship title challengers, St Bede's, couldn't follow up last weekend's 10 goal thriller with a win, losing 3-1 away to Ealandians Reserves.

But, they remain in joint first due to Gildersome Spurs having cup duties.

Elsewhere, Idle continued their push to the top of Division One with a 3-2 victory at Collingham, despite a limp performance in which they went behind at one point.

The win leaves them sitting nicely for a title tilt, only four points off top with three games in hand.

Second placed Tyersal took a hit to their own title challenge in Division Two after a 4-0 loss to Shire Academics Reserves who are just behind in third.

This will certainly be a shock to the system of a side who had previously only lost once in the league all season.

Fairbank United, down in fifth, managed a narrow 2-1 victory against relegation destined Garforth Rangers.

In Division Three, Prospect FC could only manage a draw at home to bottom club Lepton Highlanders.

They had the lead initially but the Highlanders were leading 3-1 going into the break thanks to a goal that went in off the post.

It was only in the last ten minutes that Prospect were able to salvage a point with two goals - one from Patrick Green and the other courtesy of Liam Goodaire.

The point could be much needed come the end of the season with only one point separating five teams at the bottom, although Prospect do have two games in hand on the team below.
