THIS week's round of fixtures was a mixed bag for local women's football teams.

Brighouse Town fought hard for a point at Liverpool Feds on Sunday, in the Women's National League Division One North, with a flurry of four goals coming in the second half.

Despite a 30 minute dismissal for Feds' Caroline Charlton, the team were on their way to three points with a 2-1 lead heading into the final minutes.

Step forward Abi Housecroft, who scored a last-minute equaliser for Town to grab a draw.

Charlotte Blythe got the other goal for Brighouse.

There was another 2-2 draw between two high-flyers in the First Division of the West Riding County Women's Football League (WRCWFL).

Third placed Brighouse Athletic hosted Yorkshire Amateur who were sitting five points above in second.

Athletic were losing by one goal initially, before a second-half Melissa Griffiths' brace gave them a lead - which would have seen them move within two points of their visitors.

But, Yorkshire Amateur managed to level the tie before the final whistle, meaning Athletic haven't gained any ground on their visitors, though they keep themselves within touching distance, with a game in hand.

Elsewhere in the Prem, bottom side Silsden suffered another loss - this time to fellow strugglers Tingley Athletic who put seven past them without reply.

Tingley's second win of the season puts them two points away from Brayton Belles directly above them, after their 2-2 draw with Hepworth United.

Two local Second Division WRCWFL mid-table sides played teams below them at the weekend - but with differing results.

Thackley Reserves' defence held firm but they struggled to make an impact in their home game against a well-drilled Pontefract Sports & Social.

The match was eventually decided by a 25-yard goal from Sports' Amy Smith.

Phoenix were the other side in action and they went behind to relegation candidates Durkar Devils but the lead didn't last long.

Claire Graham with two goals and Megan Medley with another, made sure Phoenix went into the break 3-1 up.

The second half saw the hosts play a lot better, and skipper Ikra Ali added to their total to end the game 4-1.

They now leapfrog Thackley reserves into fifth.

In the WRCWFL First Division, title challengers Thackley Firsts were hoping Skipton could do them a favour against leaders Ripon.

Things were bright going into half time, with a confident Skipton keeping a clean sheet, but three second half goals meant the three points went to Ripon.

Thackley kept the pressure on at the top by replicating the score of their rivals with a 3-0 win away to Boroughbridge to keep within three points of Ripon.

Fellow title challengers, Ilkley Town - who also have a game in hand on the two above them - suffered a blow with a 1-0 loss away to Republica Internationale.

Farsley Celtic beat Rotherham 4-2 in the North East Regional Women's Football League.

An entertaining first half saw Farsley go into the break with a 3-2 lead thanks to a quick-fire Shirley Murphy brace and a peach from Helen Moreton.

Substitute Dee Swales' diving header completed the scoring.

Huddersfield played National League Northern Premier Division leaders Blackburn.

After Rovers had gone 2-0 in front, Kate Mallin and Laura Elford made it all square at half time, but Town went on to lose 4-3.
