BRADFORD City manager David Hopkin has missed out on a prestigious national award.

The Bantams boss was nominated for the League One manager of the month award for December after his side's impressive revival.

City's December to remember included wins over Walsall, Scunthorpe and Rochdale. They also drew 3-3 at relegation rivals Plymouth and suffered just one defeat against Sunderland.

Hopkin was beaten to the accolade by former Luton Town manager Nathan Jones, who left the Kenilworth Road club on Thursday to take over at Championship side Stoke City.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jones said: "First of all, I am proud to have won this four times in my managerial career and it is the first time I have won it in League One, so I am very proud to win for myself and my staff and the players who and obviously a thanks to the Luton fans for all the support they have given me throughout my tenure.

"I would like them (Luton) to see them achieve promotion, we put in place a very good things, very good processes, a real good culture and environment there with excellent players that are capable of getting automatic promotion."

Bristol Rovers manager Graham Coughlan and Barnsley's Daniel Stendel was the other nominated bosses.

Meanwhile, Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney has been named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for December.

The striker's haul in the final month of the year included a hat-trick in Posh's 4-4 draw with City in their FA Cup second round replay at Valley Parade.

Toney pipped Keighley-born defender Matty Pearson, 25, of Luton Town to League One's player prize.

There was no better luck in the Championship, as a former City fans' favourite and Leeds United's head coach missed out as Hull City took the double.

Nigel Atkins claimed the manager of the month prize, while Tigers ace Jarred Bowen was named the Championship player of the month.

Atkins beat Leeds United's Marcelo Bielsa to the prize, with former Bantams defender Darren Moore, now West Brom head coach also missing out. Bristol City's Lee Johnson was the other manager nominated.

There were no individual honours for Leeds forward Kemar Roofe as Bowen took the spoils.

In League Two, Grimsby Town's Michael Jolley was named manager of the month, while Carlisle United defender Danny Grainger won the division's player prize.
