FORMER Bradford City defender Darren Moore has been nominated for December's EFL Championship Manager of the Month award, and he is joined on the shortlist by table-topping Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa.

The Whites are also represented in the Player of the Month category. Kemar Roofe is on the four-man shortlist after netting five goals in six games over December.

Moore is highly-regarded at Valley Parade, with the centre back having been integral to their 1998/99 promotion season. He played 44 matches for City that year, helping them into the Premier League for the first time.

After retiring in 2012, he stepped away from the spotlight, before assuming the roles of assistant manager, caretaker manager, and finally permanent manager, at West Brom in 2018.

The Baggies are faring far better than the other two clubs relegated from the top flight last season, Swansea City and Stoke City, and Moore has guided them up to fourth in the table.

They were unbeaten throughout December but suffered a New Year's Day hangover, losing 2-1 at Blackburn Rovers.

Bielsa has taken to English management like a duck to water and Leeds won their first five league games last month to establish a significant lead at the top of the table.

That gap has been trimmed to just two points now by Norwich City, as United lost either side of New Year to Hull City and Nottingham Forest.

Moore and Bielsa are up against Lee Johnson (Bristol City) and Nigel Adkins (Hull) for the manager award, while Roofe's fellow player nominees are Billy Sharp (Sheffield United), Jarrod Bowen (Hull) and Harry Wilson (Derby County).
