BRADFORD boxer Tasif Khan made his long trip to Nigeria worthwhile, bringing the WBU world title back home to add to his collection of GBU and WBC belts.

He headlined the event, held at the Landmark Convention Centre in Lagos, and won his fight against former Commonwealth title challenger Asamoah Wilson in the second round by TKO.

He rocked his opponent in the first round, before knocking him down with a body shot in the second, and it was not long until the referee called a halt to the contest.

Girlington man Khan was originally scheduled to fight experienced Mexican Sammy Reyes, but due to travel complications, Reyes was refused entry into Nigeria.

Fortunately for Khan, his promotional team, Monarch Events & Promotions, managed to find Wilson, who hails from Ghana, as a replacement. Despite the last-minute change, Khan was still up against a boxer with serious pedigree.

The Bradfordian's controlled aggressive performance on away soil ensured that there would only be one winner in the contest though.

Khan is proud of his Bradford roots and has undoubtedly aimed to put the city and his country on the map, doing that with another win.

He was thrilled with the victory and said: "I was hungry to fight, and all the hard work in camp had to pay off on a massive show in Nigeria.

"Regardless of who the opponent was, I needed to make a statement in the superflyweight division and I believe I did that.

"I am blessed with the support I have had throughout and would like to thank my family, friends and sponsors (Insane Air, Kingsland Business Recovery and Janan) for continually giving me love and support.

"I truly appreciate it. We had a great year in 2018 and it's only the beginning and going to get better, God willing."
