ILKLEY Town kept their slim West Yorkshire League Premier Division title hopes alive with a crucial 1-0 home win over Headingley.

Toby Harris was the hero, as he bagged the first half winner to keep his side riding high in fourth place, nine points behind leaders Carlton Athletic.

There was less cheer for the bottom two, Salts First and Wyke Wanderers, although both teams fought hard at home against tricky opposition.

Rock-bottom Salts welcomed second-placed Beeston St Anthony and lost 4-1. Visiting forward Sean Jeavons bagged a hat-trick, but Thomas Storey scored a deserved consolation for the hosts.

Wyke's margin of defeat was slightly closer, but the Cleckheaton side still lost 3-1 at home to fifth-placed Hunslet Club.

Pool have struggled badly since they were relegated from the top flight last year and they suffered their 10th defeat of the season on Saturday, going down 2-0 at high-flying Aberford Albion.

Campion could well be joining them in the second tier next season. The Division Two outfit moved seven points clear at the summit after winning 3-1 at Ripon City, while nearest challengers Glasshoughton Rock could only draw 2-2 at Old Centralians.

Jahro Parchment was at the double for Campion on Saturday, while another goal from Kyle Bingham wrapped up a routine away win. Captain Carl Trennery was sent off but fortunately for the leaders, his dismissal did not change the course of the match.

Baildon Trinity Athletic were defeated 5-3 in a thrilling basement clash at home to Knaresborough Celtic. Louis Francis, Dean Rands and substitute Steve Sample were all on the scoresheet for the hosts, who remain second-bottom.

Brighouse Old Boys are keeping them off the foot of the table on goal difference, and they suffered an thumping 4-0 defeat at a strong Swillington Saints side this weekend.

In Alliance Division Two, Salts Reserves suffered a shock defeat, their first of the season, going down 4-2 at mid-table Altofts Reserves.

Nathan Hartley and Oliver Hulme netted for the visitors, but Niall Gott was also shown a straight red card as his side relinquished top spot to Boroughbridge Reserves, who won 3-1 at Kippax Reserves.

Rock-bottom Pool Reserves fought hard at home to mid-table Howden Clough Reserves, but eventually lost 2-1, with Ben Fawcett scoring their only goal.

Finally, high-flying Ilkley Town Reserves played out a 0-0 draw at fellow top half outfit East End Park Reserves.
