WIBSEY secured a brilliant 3-2 home victory over Athletico in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division. They are still bottom of the Premier Division but have now moved level with Stanningley Old Boys, with a game in hand.

Athletico remain seventh and were bitterly disappointed to come off second-best in a competitive game at Beckfoot.

Both keepers made good early saves but after 20 minutes, Jordan Northin met a deep free kick from James Crosland to head Wibsey in front.

Athletico hit back, playing some great football in midfield to break open the Wibsey defence, before Mohammed Qasim fired into the top corner to ensure the first half finished 1-1.

The visitors went in front on 65 minutes. The Wibsey keeper saved well but his clearance hit Adeeb Jawab, who poked home from close range.

Northin then scored his second header to bring Wibsey level and, with five minutes left, Ethan Labad broke from midfield and fired across the keeper to put the hosts 3-2 in front, a lead they never relinquished.

At the other end of the table, Farsley Celtic Juniors opened up a six point lead at the top after winning 1-0 at third-placed Grangefield Old Boys.

Both keepers were rarely tested throughout, with the midfielders seeing plenty of the ball.

The goal came after 25 minutes, with the midfield completely bypassed. An 80-yard punt by Farsley keeper Jordan Wright defeated the Grangefield rearguard and Danny Lyons accelerated past the defenders to slot home for the winner.

Drighlington are six points behind leaders Farsley with a game in hand after beating Stanningley Old Boys 3-1. They led 1-0 at the break and quickly added a second goal.

Stanningley reduced the deficit to 2-1 but Drighlington quickly restored the two-goal margin to wrap up the win. Drighlington's goals came courtesy of Sam Sowden (2) and Harvey Booth.

Elsewhere, Callum Walker made a fine start to the New Year with his hat trick for Horsforth in a 4-0 home win over Calverley United. Joe Clapham added the other goal to ensure Horsforth remain fifth.

St Bede's thumped rock-bottom Leeds Independent 8-3 in the Championship to consolidate second place. Bede's were 4-1 up in 15 minutes. Josh Moon opened the scoring for them but Kwame Westerman soon levelled matters.

Andy McHugh completed a stunning quickfire hat-trick to put Bede's in control, before Alex Green made it 5-1.

Indy's Jordan Clark made it 5-2 at the interval but after the break, McHugh, Jermaine Moyce and Andy Gallagher completed the scoring for Bede's. Indy netted a late consolation through Azekya Jeffers.

Finally, Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves lost 4-3 at Alwoodley Reserves in a Division One thriller. The visitors went behind on three occasions, but Adam Kellett, Danny Kemp and Jake Thompson were on the ball to equalise each time.

Graham Shaw's hat-trick eventually ensured three points for the home side, with Farsley also having a player sent off for dissent. The visitors remain in ninth with 13 points from 11 matches.
