THERE was no joy for the area’s five clubs in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League after three draws and one defeat across the two divisions.

Campion had their lead at the top of Division One cut to just one point after being held to a goalless draw at home by lowly Ollerton Town.

The hosts lacked their usual guile and invention as they struggled against the side who sit 16th in the table.

The fact that James Bicknell’s men dropped two points was compounded by victories for second placed Winterton Rangers and fourth placed Hallam.

Winterton are just one point worse off than Campion now but have played one game more, Hallam are five points back but they have three games in hand. Third-placed Grimsby Borough lost 3-2 at Glasshoughton Welfare.

There was an uninspiring goalless draw at Clayborn as Liversedge hosted neighbours Albion Sports.

It was a dour struggle between two out of form sides and they remain 16th and 15th in the Premier Division respectively, with Albion above Sedge on goal difference only.

Eccleshill United have been in good form but they struggled at home in a 1-1 draw against second-bottom Harrogate Railway.

The Eagles are the highest-placed of the Bradford district sides in the division and they actually climbed one place to eighth after picking up a point.

It was a fourth consecutive draw for the Rail and they remain in the relegation places but they gave the Eagles a shock. The visitors took a first half lead when Steve Smith netted a superb first-half free kick.

The home side got their equaliser from the penalty spot five minutes after the break through Andrew Cooper.

Thackley remain 17th after a narrow 2-1 defeat at Bottesford Town. It was a tough loss to take, with the winning goal coming right at the death after the Dennyboys had led for almost an hour.

Asa Mitchell put Thackley a goal up in the seventh minute and they took that advantage into half-time. The hosts levelled from the spot through Jack McMenemy in the 63rd minute and Lewis Bemrose scored their stoppage time winner.
