FARSLEY Celtic consolidated third place in the top tier of the Evo-Stik League with a 2-1 away win at Marine.

It was a game of few chances at the Marine Travel Arena but the visitors made their two biggest opportunities of the first half count. Although they were reduced to ten men early in the second half, they managed to see out the victory.

Striker Jimmy Spencer was sent off in the 56th minute after a flare-up and minutes later there was an incident in the Celts’ area that ended with visiting keeper Kyle Trenerry on the floor and Marine’s Danny Mitchley and Niall Cummins both receiving yellow cards.

The first half had been a mainly quiet affair although Farsley took an 18th minute lead from the penalty spot. Spencer was fouled by Liam Hynes and Ben Atkinson drilled the resulting penalty past home keeper Pat Wharton.

Farsley had more half chances before their former Bradford City midfielder Dave Syers doubled their lead – Syers leaping to head Isaac Baldwin’s 39th minute cross past Wharton.

Following Spencer’s dismissal, the home side began to threaten and they halved the deficit in the 69th minute through Cummins, who headed a good cross from Sam Tattum past Trenerry.

Brighouse Town enjoyed a home win in Division One East and they remain in third place thanks to the three points.

Vill Powell’s Town travelled to Gresley and were relived that the home side’s pitch had passed an inspection following days of wet weather. The Derbyshire side’s staff and volunteers had certainly worked hard to get the playing surface in a fit state.

All off the mid-table club’s hard work benefited Brighouse however as they won 1-0 thanks to a second half strike from Mo Ibrahim.

Arron Martin claimed the assist after great work on the right flank and a neat lay-back that Ibrahim bent into the top corner.
