BRADFORD (Park Avenue) played out an extraordinary West Riding County Cup game at Leeds United Reserves, losing 8-4 despite being ahead 10 minutes into the second half.

Bradford were showing no signs of being out of match action and had most of the early play in their third round tie against an unknown quantity.

Alice McUrich opened the scoring for the visitors, but Ellie Hairsine replied quickly for the hosts. United were fortunate to go in front from the spot, but Katie Dormer soon equalised.

Leeds' Mya Webb then lofted a ball high over the unfortunate Vicky Barlow, but Bradford's keeper made several brilliant saves throughout the game. There were no further goals before the break, with United 3-2 up after a close half.

Avenue came flying out of the traps after the break and edged 4-3 in front after a stunning brace from Natalie Bell.

With no substitutes available, Avenue's players were tiring near the end and the last 20 minutes saw Leeds put away five goals without reply to wrap up a slightly lopsided win.

Leeds United first team also eased through to the next round with a convincing 8-2 win over Yorkshire Amateur at Thorp Arch.

Underdogs Phoenix put up a brave fight, and their goalkeeper made several good saves, but they unsurprisingly were well beaten by Guiseley Vixens, the holders winning 11-0.

The scorers for the visitors were Kirstie Hunt, Ellie Casper, Jodie Leigh Hunter, Olivia Auker (2), Lauren Griffiths, Monika Estere Stube (2), Elisha Hardcastle and Milly Ash (2).

Brighouse Athletic beat Ossett United Reserves 4-2, with Melanie Griffiths (2), Emily Holroyd and Tiegan Rowley all on the scoresheet.

There was only one league game, as Farsley Celtic were at Wallsend BC in the Regional League.

The Tynesiders scored from a corner, but Rachel White immediately equalised.

Just before the break, Shirley Murphy celebrated her return to the team with the winner, a fine left-footed shot into the top corner.

Women's football resumes on January 6.
