AFTER last weekend's match at Huddersfield match had to be called off because of a frozen pitch, Wharfedale will be looking to go into the Christmas break on a high by getting a win at Sedgeley Park this Saturday.

"They called our game off at 11am," said Wharfedale coach John Feeley. "Huddersfield is quite high up and there's a part of their pitch that wouldn't have got any sunlight because it's in the shadow of the main stand.

"With the forecast for zero degrees the rest of the day, the ground just wasn't playable.

"I wanted to play the game and was disappointed it was postponed, as we had a really good session at training during the week to prepare.

"We had a referee coach to come down to training to give us an idea on what referees are looking for."

So Feeley said the knowledge the players gained in that session will carry over nicely into preparation for this Saturday's match at Manchester-based side Sedgley Park.

"This will be the return fixture," said Feeley. "We played them the second game of the season and won at our place in a great display."

Sedgley Park, who had been aiming for promotion, are currently mid-table in National League Two North.

"They will be disappointed to find them themselves where they are in the league," said Feeley. "They have lost five of their last six matches.

"They tend to play around the middle, close to the ruck," he said. "They tend to carry the ball well and like to build momentum.

"So we have to make it difficult for them to get to the gain line and stop that momentum at the source."

Going into the game, the Greens will be without Rhys Lovegrove, who must miss the match after sustaining a concussion against Tynedale.

Matt Houghton will also face a fitness test this week on his hamstring injury.

Feeley did say that the Greens will be put through the paces this week by fitness coach Chris Black.

"We're looking at increasing our fitness," said Feeley. "They're in for a hard time, but the players acknowledge the benefits of fitness training."

Kick-off for this Saturday's match at Sedgley Park is 2.30pm.
