BRADFORD NO1 ANGLING ASSOCIATION

The Daily Mirror Cup match at Cowthorpe was cancelled due to the river being in flood.

The next open match will take place at the same venue on January 13. Widdington Hall will be closed on Sunday for an outside booking.

After months of low levels causing issues, the rain has meant the region's rivers have been largely unfishable.

Prior to this, though, there have been some very good catches of chub and barbel from the River Nidd at Cowthorpe and River Swale at Thornton Bridge.

There have also been excellent nets of roach from the River Swale at Topcliffe and Milby Cut Canal.

This year's re-stockings got under way a couple of weeks ago at Kirklees Lagoon with the introduction of six carp between 20lbs 5oz and 25lbs 6oz.

The fish came from an excellent strain at Fishers Pond Fisheries and are part of an ongoing restocking program at this lake.

The lake has a history of producing fish over 30lbs so it's hoped these fish will be the next generation of this in a few year's time.

Membership for 2019 is now available from tackle shop agents, online at bradfordno1.com, or Simon Freer on 07714 662783.

Prices have been frozen for this year so senior membership costs £50, concessions £30 and juniors £5.

Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances Tackle 2U are not selling membership.

For anglers in Bradford, membership can be purchased from Eccleshill Angling on Stony Lane.

Night permit holders are reminded that these must be renewed with Simon by January 31, after which any remaining will be sold to the waiting list.

BINGLEY ANGLING CLUB

River levels should be at a fishable level by the weekend after last week's rain, but the banks will be slippery and extra care should be taken and stay safe.

The draw for Sunday's match will be in Myrtle Park at 9am, fish 10am-3pm. To book, call Adi on 07783 332705.

Plenty of small silvers and the odd Bream are being caught on the canal at Crossflatts.

LEEDS & DISTRICT ASA

The result of the poorly attended match on Moor Monkton pools was a win for G Rhodes with 53b 4oz, runner-up was R Worsnop with 21lb 13oz.

Last Saturday's match at Kippax Farm was held on Lapwing as an experiment, the winner was L Willshaw with 112lb 14oz.

The winner of Sunday's winter series match at Moor Monkton fixture six was O Hewitt 46lb 3oz, second was L Smith with 40lb 11oz. Third was L Bryon with 30lb 6oz, fourth was A Middleton with 28lb.

When river levels have permitted, anglers have been fairly numerous on the Ouse system pike fishing with quite good results.

LISTERHILLS ANGLING ASSOCIATION

Final positions in this year's aggregate weight trophy are: 1 E Harrison 144lb 11oz, 2 J Harrison 134lb 6oz, 3 D Jackson 144lb 1oz, 4 B Mason 65lb 10.5oz.

B Myers, in a short sessions on the River Aire, had three chub best weighed 2.5lb.

Another visit to the same swim resulted in only one small trout, but that's fishing at this time of year.

There has been a delay with next year's membership books due to the printers. However it is hoped to have them in the tackle shops before the end of the year.

SKIPTON ANGLING CLUB

With the weather rather turbulent on all of the previous week with gale force winds, heavy rain and cold nights, conditions had calmed down somewhat for the final Skipton Winter League match of the season last Sunday on the Long Ing length of the canal at Barnoldswick.

Unfortunately, there has been no one available to let me have the match results on the day but an indicator of the season’s successful anglers has been prepared by Simon Chenier.

These results have to be taken as provisional as they are based on the seven match results whereas only the best six count for the final placings and these details have not been available to Simon.

In the individual competition Robert Thornton is champion with 17 points with Russell Heaton runner-up with 31.

Other leading competitors are: 3 Jason Aldis 37; 4 Simon Chenier 40; 5 Andy Wharton 45; 6 Bill Davenport 50; 7 Ernest Ramsbotham 54 and 8 Andrew Leatt 60.

The full pairs positions are as follows: 1 Thornton & Chenier 20; 2 Aldis & Heaton 23; 3 Bradley & Davenport 34; 4 Wharton & Thomas 37; 5 Ramsbotham & Mawson 42; 6 Wright & Eason 43; 7 Leatt & AN Other 48; 8 Veevers & McElroy 54 and Young & John Heaton 58.

Irrespective of taking account of the best six results, the first two shown in the pairs are guaranteed to finish at the top but may change positions.

This Sunday will feature the winter league competitor’s Christmas Cheer match on the marina length at Barnoldswick, a stretch that has produced some memorable results in the not too distant past.

Competitors should each bring along a suitable prize or prizes for distribution at the end of the match.

There will be an open match on the Skipton Angling Association’s Whinnygill Reservoir on Sunday, December 30, with the draw at 9am.

Reports from all the local waters suggest that the inclement weather had certainly put the fish off the feed and in the case of the River Aire, bank top water levels certainly ruled any fishing.

Prospects should improve for this weekend if the weather remains on the dry side.
