JOSH Poysden and the rest of the Yorkshire squad are back in pre-season training ahead of next summer.

The 27-year-old enjoyed his end of season break, one that involved a house move from the Midlands to Leeds, but is happy to be back at work.

“We got a good break after Abu Dhabi, which was nice,” he said.

“It was a long season, and that was a chance to refresh and spend some time with friends and family. Now, I’m excited to be back in training again.

“I haven’t done any skills work as yet, it’s all been about working hard physically with the sports science staff and I’ve been really impressed with the standards of the squad when we did all our fitness testing.

“The lads were strong, and the work ethic has been outstanding. It’s been impressive coming from a different squad into this one and seeing the standards the lads set for each other.”

This winter is a break from the norm for a player who is accustomed to chasing the sunshine.

He said: “Ever since I’ve been a professional, I’ve been away.

“Since I finished university, I’ve played grade cricket in Sydney three or four times, including last winter. A couple of years ago, I was more involved in ECB stuff such as the Lions.

“I’m going to try and get away in February, maybe to India. As a spin bowler, it’s a no brainer to get away somewhere and get the volume of overs up.

“Hopefully I’ll reap the rewards at the back end of next season especially.”

Poysden made his Championship and T20 debuts for Yorkshire while on loan from Warwickshire last summer and with next summer’s fixtures out, he can plan his reunions with the Bears.

He said: “I’d be lying if I said the games against Warwickshire weren’t the ones I looked at first.

“The four-day game at York should be exciting, and I think the second one-day game is at Edgbaston.

“We also finish the T20 group stage and the Championship at Edgbaston. I’d love to be involved in all of them.

“I have quite a lot of mates down there, and the chat between me and their batters has been particularly interesting.”

As for team goals in 2019, he added: “Yorkshire has a very proud Championship history, and that’s what every player aspires to win.

“It will be no different this year regardless of how young the squad is. I still believe there is a lot of talent there.

“But also a one-day trophy is high on our list of priorities.

“We have a strong 50-over side and have never won the T20s. It would be brilliant to be in the first Yorkshire team to do that. What an honour that would be.”
