TEENAGER Olly Wilson will not be rushed by the Bulls as he prepares for England duty.

Wilson is hoping to feature for the international academy side tomorrow in their first Test against the Australian Schoolboys.

The imposing prop, who is not 20 until March, is seen as another exciting prospect on the Odsal production line.

But John Kear has made it clear they are not imposing any kind of timeline on his emergence into the first-team ranks.

He said: “I don’t think you can ever say that there is a right age (to come through) because we all mature differently – some late, some earlier.

“Sam Burgess wasn’t that old when he blasted his way on to the scene.

“Not that I’m going to burden Olly with the expectations of being the next Sam Burgess. But it is achievable.

“We might be looking at Olly as an early one but we’ll wait and see.

“There will be no pressure or expectation put on him at all. We’ll let him develop in his own time.”

Wilson got a first taste of senior rugby in the final game of the League One regular season against Hemel and Kear intends to give him more minutes in the warm-up games ahead of the club’s return to the Championship.

He will also be watching closely to see how Wilson fares in the two international showdowns with the Aussies at Leigh tomorrow and Headingley next Friday.

Kear added: “Hemel was a good game to wean him in and we’ll have a good look at him in the trial games over January. We’ve got plenty.

“We’ll watch him then and you never know. But there’s certainly a pathway for him to progress to the first team if he keeps proving.

“He is a big lad and he puts his size to use as well. That’s what you want big lads to do.

“I’m really pleased with Olly and obviously I’ve kept in contact with him.

“I’ve monitored him while he’s been with England and he’s really enjoying being in the camp.

“I think he will certainly enjoy the next two Test matches against the Australians.”

Wilson’s presence in the 22-man England squad is another nod towards the continued success of the Bulls academy.

Alongside Widnes duo Ben Davies and Sam Walters, he is one of only three players outside of the Super League clubs to be called up.

Kear thought the Bulls also had a case for further representation.

He said: “The vast majority are the usual suspects from Wigan, Leeds and Saints.

“But we’re very pleased we’ve got one in – and perhaps we feel we should have had more because Rowan Milnes and Keelan Foster played well for Yorkshire against the Aussies.

“But they haven’t been called up and, selfishly, that’s good for me because I can certainly play them a bit earlier in the trial games.”
