Two of the committee had a good day targeting Pike last Sunday on the boats section of the canal, taking five fish between them.

Three of them were double figure fish, with the best weighing in at 17lb 10oz for Lee Weston. This looks promising for the pike match on November 25 on this length. For further details, call Lee on 07496 445303.

KEIGHLEY ANGLING CLUB

The cooler autumn climate is a sure sign that pike are becoming more active in the water and there have been several sightings of predators moving stealthily through our pools, canals and rivers.

Pike angling has finally returned and in the past few days, two double-figure fish were brought to the bank of the River Aire before carefully being returned.

More smaller specimens have also been spotted close to the surface of the canal between Riddlesden and Silsden.

Anyone who catches a pike is reminded to take a photograph, to put them in line for the annual trophy awarded by Keighley Angling Club to any member who nets the largest fish.

Anglers are also reminded that, despite its fierce nature, pike need careful handling and we have strict rules governing the compulsory use of landing nets and unhooking mats.

Perch are also abundant in our waters. These small voracious predators find maggot irresistible and seem vulnerable to the drop shot method.

Grayling offer the best possible indication of purity of the River Aire as it passes through Keighley.

These silver bodied fish are currently shoaling in large numbers and, like perch, are especially fond of maggot. There has been a spate of catches in fast-flowing swims throughout local waters.

The club’s annual general meeting takes place at the Ryshworth Club, Crossflatts on Tuesday, November 20, at 7.30pm.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA ANGLING CLUB

Our next meeting is the annual general meeting on Tuesday, November 20. Any rule changes or things you want to discuss, please ring the secretary before this meeting on 07788 928692.

We have a trip to Whitby on November 24. Anyone wishing to go should call the trip secretary on 07711 987833 to book your place.

Whitby is still producing good amounts of cod, ling and pollock when the boats can get out. A few boats are trying inshore, up-tiding with some good results.

BINGLEY ANGLING CLUB

It was voted at the annual general meeting to keep membership rates the same for 2019.

The canal continues to fish well for small silverfish and one junior member caught a personal best 8lb Pike on sprat. Grayling to over 1lb are being caught on the River Aire on trotted worm and maggot
