REIGNING Yorkshire Amateur League champions Drighlington met last season's Leeds and District Cup finalists Leeds City FC in the Terry Marfitt Trophy and eased to a 3-0 victory.

Second half strikes from Ben Small, Josh Frankland and Sam Thorpe proved the difference, and saw them comfortably into the quarter finals.

Rock-bottom Premier Division side Wibsey were away to Championship strugglers Leeds Independent but only 10 players made the trip for the visitors, and they were beaten 2-1.

Nevertheless, Wibsey battled hard and they hit the woodwork four times in the first half, as well as having a goal disallowed.

After the break, Independent's Marlon Richards slotted the ball past the keeper after a good move down the right, before substitute Daniel Walker made it 2-0 with a cross that beat everyone and ended up in the top corner.

Jamie Brennan scrambled home for Wibsey after the Independent keeper fumbled, but it was not enough as the second-tier side celebrated a surprise quarter-final appearance.

Newly-promoted Garforth Crusaders have started well in the Championship and they were unfortunate to lose 1-0 to Premier Division Athletico.

The prolific Muhammed Qasim netted the winner from the penalty spot in the 15th minute but the normally free-scoring side could not add to their tally.

The all-Premier Division clash between Grangefield and Horsforth St Margarets saw the former gain revenge. Horsforth won 4-0 last time out but Grangefield dominated here and triumphed 3-0.

Chris Barr opened the scoring in the second half with a penalty, before substitute Kristian Dacre scored twice with a pair of sublime finishes.

Premier Division leaders Farsley Celtic came on strong after the break against Championship high-fliers Wortley to record a 4-1 win.

Joe Firth put Farsley ahead before the interval but Wortley levelled from the spot. Craig Farrand grabbed Farsley's second, before Tom Ormondroyd netted with a shot on the turn and a header to wrap up victory.

Meanwhile, Premier Division strugglers Calverley United recorded a vital 2-0 home league win in their relegation battle with Stanningley Old Boys.

Calverley took the lead through Ben Cook and after Stanningley missed a sitter to level matters, the hosts doubled their lead through Dale Spink, before Tom Stewart was dismissed for the visitors late on.

In the Championship, hosts St Bedes came back to win a thriller 4-3 against Shire Academics thanks to a hat-trick from striker Jermaine Moyce.

He scored after 10 minutes but the visitors roared back to take a 3-1 lead through Ben Freeman, Sam Lyons and Jordan Talbot.

Early in the second half, a through ball found Moyce and he just beat the keeper to net his second. Moyce scored a penalty to make it 3-3, before Miles Smith headed a dramatic winner with 10 minutes left.

Idle kept up their Division One title push after a lightning start helped them secure a 3-0 home win over Thornesians.

They opened the scoring through Jack Strudwick in the second minute and Lee Cookson quickly added a second when Thornesians failed to clear a corner.

Tom Simonett showed a lovely piece of skill in the box to go past two men before being brought down by the defender and Strudwick fired home the penalty to make it 3-0.

The second half was a bit of a non-event as Idle kept Thornesians' long ball tactics at bay to keep a well-deserved clean sheet.

Elsewhere, Fairbank cruised through to the quarter finals of the Hancock Cup with a 7-1 win over hard-working Trinity & All Saints Old Boys.

Shoaib Hussain claimed a hat-trick and he opened the scoring, after a jinking run from the edge of the area saw him drive past two defenders and round the keeper before slotting home.

Trinity hit back with a well-taken close range finish, and should have had the lead but for two excellent saves from Fairbank keeper Harris Khan.

Hussain converted Abdullah Lone's cross to help get Fairbank back on track before he set up Hussain Iqbal to tap home into an empty net on the stroke of half time.

Iqbal hit his second, and Hussain his third, before substitute Faris Hussain got his name on the scoresheet.

On the stroke of full time, the omnipresent Hussain was upended in the area, allowing Akif Waseem to step up and convert the penalty to leave Fairbank in seventh heaven.

Garforth Rangers also netted seven, and with a stronger than usual squad, they overwhelmed high-flying Tyersal. The scorers for Garforth in their 7-0 win were Bromley Mills (3), Liam Dent (2), Jack Wormald and Kieran Dent.

Division Three teams sides Prospect and Morley Town III played out a thriller, and it was the former that edged the cup contest 4-3.

Prospect went 2-0 in front but Morley responded before half-time and the sides traded goals just after the restart.

Prospect restored their two-goal lead but were pegged back again late in the contest. Prospect held on though and their scorers were Jason Hobson (3) and Jordan Farrell.

Farnley Sports drew 3-3 with Horsforth St Margarets Reserves before winning 4-2 on penalties.

Shawn Gill scored twice early on for Farnley, before Ciaran Cowie adding a third after the break. Keeper Adrian Knott was the hero in the shootout, saving two penalties to see his side through.

In the Hodgson Cup, Tyersal Reserves, of Division Five, thumped their Division Four opponents Calverley Reserves 5-1 after an Adrian Lowther hat-trick.

Finally, Division Five leaders Batelians sorely missed their 37-goal leading scorer Rob Bordman, as they bowed out with a 4-0 home defeat to Gildersome Spurs Old Boys Reserves.

The visitors slowly began to dominate proceedings in a goalless first half, before running riot after the break with strikes from Sam Innes (2), Jamie Lloyd and Ben Barstow.
