ON paper playing a mid-table Conference Premier team in the FA Cup might be just what City need right now, however the form guide might suggest otherwise.

While David Hopkin's men have lost all of their last six League One games, The Shots are on a decent run of form at the moment, winning four of their last six games. This mini-run of form included defeating Kettering Town 2-0 in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round last month.

Aldershot Town are 13th in the league after a record of seven wins from their opening 19 games of the season, which also shows how much they have picked up since the first round draw was made.

But the EBB Stadium side have been hit by a bizarre injury blow this week.

Aldershot midfielder James Rowe is expected to be on the sidelines for several months after dropping a bottle of Ribena and then accidentally standing on the broken glass.

City will be hoping to wrap up the tie one game early after they were forced to go to a replay at Valley Parade in the FA Cup first round in November 2015. A Greg Leigh chip and a Tony McMahon's penalty were enough to seal City's passage into the second round.

Aldershot manager Gary Waddock, who played for Queens Park Rangers in both the 1982 FA Cup Final and the subsequent replay where they lost to Spurs, said the Bantams will prove a tough test.

He said: "They are a League One club with a great history and not so long ago they were a Premier League club.

"They are better than their league position suggests to everybody.

"We have watched them a good number of times. They are a good side and have a good number of players in their team. They will be tough opponents and are two league ahead of us.

"The FA Cup brings out surprises. They will be ready for it and so will we. It will be a good tie.

"Our home support can play a big part for us and can help us tomorrow. A big crowd support can be vocal as well.

"The FA Cup gives us a chance to put league form and position away for a week and concentrate on a one-off game. We are playing league opposition.

"Our management team and players can test themselves against league opposition. That's a challenge for us and we are looking forward to it."
