WHARFEDALE Rugby Club started up an under 13s girls team in September.

The girls train on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 7pm at the rugby club in Thresfield.

The club has around ten girls who train regularly, coming from either Upper Wharfedale or Skipton Girls High School.

On Sunday the girls played their first match against North Ribblesdale.

A Wharfedale spokesman said: "We were comfortably second, but considering it was our first run out against a team of seasoned campaigners the girls did really well, and certainly improved as the game wore on.

"With other local clubs also starting girls teams, the hope is to have regular matches for the girls to take part in.

"Our aim is to increase the numbers up to around 20, if possible, to make for a more competitive training and playing environment."

Year 7 or Year 8 girls who are interested are invited to come along to Tuesday night training session.
