KEIGHLEY Cougars have signed Will Cooke from Betfred League One rivals Hunslet.

Cooke, a utility who can play in either the centres or the back row, joins the club following two years at the South Leeds Stadium.

He had two spells with the Castleford Tigers academy either side of a stint in the youth set-up at the Huddersfield Giants.

After leaving the Tigers following his second spell at Wheldon Road, Cooke spent a year playing at the now defunct Oxford club where he scored four tries in 14 appearances and played his part in memorable victories over York and Hunslet.

After departing the blues, he had a brief spell in rugby union in the winter of 2017 with Harrogate prior to signing with Hunslet ahead of the 2018 season.

During his sole year with Gary Thornton’s side, Cooke made nine appearances for the club in which time he scored four tries.

Will, will be a familiar face to those who are regulars at Cougars Reserves fixtures after he made two appearances on dual-registration for Scott Lindsey’s side this season from the south Leeds outfit.

Cooke said: “I’m really excited for the opportunity that Keighley have give me.

“When Steve Gill first rang me, I was really undecided on what I was going to do next year with my rugby.

“But after sitting down with Steve and Craig Lingard, they really sold what they are trying to build at the club which I felt suited me really well and was what I was looking for in a club for my development as a young player looking for regular game time.

“I’m just really looking forward to getting back into pre-season and really offering my best rugby for the club.”
