WIBSEY are bottom of the Yorkshire Amateur Premier Division with just one win, while Farsley have a 100 per cent record at the summit, but the underdog had their day as the strugglers heroically triumphed on penalties in the West Riding County Challenge Cup.

The scores were level at 1-1 after 90 minutes and the ensuing shootout was won 4-3 by Wibsey.

A goalless first 45 minutes saw Wibsey, with only twelve players available, playing in a dogged and organised fashion, with their keeper and assistant manager Mark House in top form.

Farsley took the lead through Danny Lyons midway through the second half but they then squandered two gilt edged chances to double their lead.

A resolute Wibsey stuck to their task and restored parity when a poor backpass to the Farsley keeper Jordan Wright was not cleared quickly enough.

Danny O'Donnell bundled the ball over the line to equalise with 10 minutes left, despite claims that he had fouled the keeper in the act of scoring.

Wibsey defended well, but allowed Farsley one final golden opportunity, which they wasted. It was 3-3 after five penalties as the shootout went to sudden death.

The underdogs scored their sixth, before House saved Farsley's final penalty to cue mass celebrations.

Athletico and Horsforth St Margaret's suffered the same fate as Farsley. The former bowed out of the cup after a 4-0 defeat to Settle United, while the latter lost 4-2 to Church Fenton.

In the Premier Division, Grangefield Old Boys left it late to take all three points with a 3-2 home win over Ealandians.

Grangefield applied the pressure throughout but Ealandians looked dangerous on the break, and goals for Colin Schofield and Martin Colwell put the visitors 2-1 up, after Brandon Baldwin's early strike for the hosts.

The hosts battled back and won the game with two late goals from young Chris Barr to maintain third spot in the league.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves slipped to eighth in Division One after going down 4-2 home to new leaders Collegians, despite goals from Jordan Lewandowski and Joe Crampton.

In Division Two, third-placed Horsforth St Margaret’s Reserves were thumped 4-1 by leaders Colton Athletic, with their late consolation strike counting for little.

In the West Riding County Trophy, Idle hammered Beeston St Anthony's 5-1, while Fourth Division side Drighlington Reserves were desperately unlucky to lose 6-5 on penalties, after a 0-0 draw at Division Two outfit Shire Academics Reserves.
