CHARLIE Flaherty’s 58th minute strike proved to be the match winner as Eccleshill United came from a goal down to bank a 2-1 win in their Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash at Hall Road Rangers.

Rangers grabbed an early lead when Josh Vickers made the most of some hesitant Eccleshill defending to open the scoring.

Luke Harrop netted a poacher’s goal to get the visitors level midway through the first half and they came within a whisker of taking a lead into the break, but Nathan Woodward’s effort came back off the bar.

Rangers came on strong but the Eagles stood firm and got the all important goal just before the hour mark. Flaherty did well to control a through ball before rounding home keeper Sean Gibson and rolling the ball into the unguarded net.

Albion Sports’ winning run came to an end with a 3-2 defeat at Knaresborough Town but Kulwinder Sandhu’s men pushed their third-placed hosts all the way in a thrilling contest.

The hosts got off to a dream start as they broke the deadlock in the second minute. The Lions had forced a corner but the home side broke away on the counter attack and Brad Walker finished the move off.

Town striker Walker rattled the crossbar in the 14th minute but Albion tested the home defence regularly before the interval and they netted a deserved equaliser just before the hour mark.

Lamin Janneh pounced to score when Town keeper Liam Corbett could only parry a fierce shot and the Lions were soon in the lead.

Corbett parried Alhassane Keita’s spot kick but the forward followed up to net the rebound.

Just two minutes later Walker bagged his brace and with a little over 15 minutes remaining, he netted another fine strike to claim his hat-trick.

Liversedge slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Athersley Recreation with Josh Dacre and Chris Wood both on target for the visitors in the first half.

Campion’s progress in Division One was checked as the second-placed club were held to a 2-2 draw at second from bottom Harworth Colliery.

Richard Williams bagged a brace inside the opening 18 minutes on his Harworth debut to leave James Bicknell’s side chasing the game.

Their fightback started after the break as Matthias Britton netted in the 46th minute, with Calum Ward scoring the equaliser just six minutes later.
