KEIGHLEY Cougars have signed Jack Coventry from League One rivals Hunslet on a one-year deal.

Coventry, an uncompromising prop forward whose go forward and defensive attributes made him a favourite with the Hunslet supporters during his time at the South Leeds Stadium, arrives at Cougar Park following a two-and-a-half-year spell with the South Leeds side.

Coming through the youth ranks at the Featherstone Rovers, Coventry regularly featured against the Cougars at reserve grade level before making his breakthrough into the first team at the LD Nutrition Stadium during the 2015 season.

Despite his chances in the first team being limited, Coventry was a part of the side that defeated the London Broncos in Widnes at the end of the year to be crowned the inaugural winners of the Championship Shield.

The prop then moved to Hunslet, initially on loan, midway through the 2016 season and his impressive performances prompted the club to make his move permanent ahead of the 2017 season.

Despite the South Leeds outfit underperforming on the field during 2017, he continued to play his part making 17 appearances as he helped the club get over the disappointment of missing out on a top-eight finish by defeating the London Skolars to win the League One Shield.

Opportunities were limited for Coventry in 2018 as he only made eight appearances for Gary Thornton’s side throughout prior to being released come the conclusion of the past season.

This prompted the Cougars to secure his services for the 2019 season.
