TWO former Bulls have been added to the nominees for the 2018 Golden Boot award after England's first Test win over New Zealand.

John Bateman and Elliott Whitehead, who are both from Bradford, have joined the initial five-strong list along with international team-mate Tommy Makinson and Kiwis Shaun Johnson and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.

Former West Bowling product Whitehead, who made 100 top-flight appearances for Bulls before leaving for Catalan Dragons in 2013, has been one of Canberra Raiders' best players since joining the NRL club two years ago.

He was man of the match for England in their 18-16 win over the Kiwis in Hull last weekend.

Bateman, who also rose through the Bulls ranks after learning the game at Dudley Hill, is joining Whitehead at Canberra after leaving Wigan Warriors, having bowed out in their Grand Final success against Warrington.

Bateman and Whitehead plus the other additional nominees will be considered alongside Tonga's Jason Taumalolo and Sio Siua Taukeiaho and Australian trio Valentine Holmes, James Tedesco and Boyd Cordner.

The selection panel, drawn from the rugby league media in both hemispheres, will convene again after Sunday's second Test between England and New Zealand to finalise the shortlist ahead of the announcement of the winner at the Rugby League International Federation Golden Boot dinner at Elland Road on November 7.

Meanwhile, Georgia Roche can celebrate her England debut, plus a nomination for the prestigious BBC young sports personality of the year, by adding a nomination to be the inaugural Women's Golden Boot winner.

She joins New Zealand star Honey Hireme and Australians Isabelle Kelly, Ali Brigginshaw and Brittany Breayley.
