BRADFORD City Women make the 200-mile round trip to Oswestry tomorrow to take on The New Saints in the FA Women's National League Plate.

The Bantams were knocked out in the first round of the cup after a 2-1 defeat at Hull City, but get a second chance at silverware in the plate competition.

The game against Saints was originally due to be played on October 14, but a waterlogged pitch caused its postponement.

City go into the rearranged clash buoyed by their first win of the season after beating local rivals Farsley Celtic in the West Riding Cup last Sunday.

Sixteen-year-old left winger Shirley Murphy netted a fabulous hat-trick and a second half strike from fellow teenager Jess Dunlop saw City run out 4-1 winners.

Joint managers Toni Butcher and Meg Lawson will be hoping for more of the same from their young squad this weekend.

First team captain Harriet Jakeman is upbeat after leading the side to their long-overdue first win, saying: “Tomorrow is a great chance for us to relax on the ball and play good football, with again less pressure on us as it’s a cup game.

"We have been playing good football with a young side and we’ve been gaining confidence to take into our league games. Confidence, composure on the ball and communication are key for us this weekend.”

City’s new signings Bryony Hanson, Jade Brindle, Robyn Harris and Sian Wilson are all likely to be available for selection, with former Leeds United player Jen Clark returning from injury to bolster the defence.

Striker Keegan Lambert will be sidelined again after limping off last Sunday following a recurrence of a knee problem, while Olivia Taylor will also be missing due to injury.

The New Saints currently sit eighth in the FAWNL Midlands Division One and their last competitive match was a 6-1 victory away at Steel City Wanderers.

City’s Development side are also in action tomorrow, travelling to face neighbours Huddersfield Town at Storthes Hall in the Reserve Northern Division One.

City are currently bottom, but have games in hand that they will be looking to capitalise on.

Bradford (Park Avenue) play Tingley at Casson Avenue in the West Riding County Women's Premier Division.

Meanwhile, Thackley are hopeful of bouncing back from defeat with a visit to unbeaten Division One leaders Ripon.

Tyersal travel to Skipton, who have had their only points deducted after Ossett Town resigned from the League.

Phoenix entertain Thackley Reserves at Laisteridge Lane.
