ANDY Gabriel says he has stepped up after leaving Keighley Cougars following a three-year spell.

The winger last night joined Championship side Dewsbury Rams.

Gabriel was the Cougars' top try scorer in their Betfred League One campaign this year. He has signed a deal for the 2019 season at the Rams.

Gabriel, 25, said: “I’m excited to make the step up it is what I have been pushing for.

“I have been at Keighley for three years and every year I think I have stepped up. I have learnt a lot from different people at the club.

"Confidence has always been a big thing and I think every year I have just grown in confidence.

“I have grown as a player, playing in that league.”

“When I was younger playing in the amateur league I did play as a centre.

“I then moved onto the wing position which suits me with my pace and finishing.”

“Dewsbury was the ideal club for me to come to. Obviously it helps that I have played with Adam Ryder before and been coached under Mitch.

“They spoke well of the club and I know it will be a good move for me.

“They told me it is a very professional environment and all the lads are good, so I can’t wait to get started.

“I have never played against the Rams but whenever I have spoke to anyone about Dewsbury they have always spoke highly of the club.

“I just want to give it a really good go. I want to have a good pre-season and just show in friendlies and then in the season what I can do.”

Cougars tweeted: "A product of the Cougars Reserves and a holder of two club records, we would like to thank Gabes for his service to the club."
