BRIGHOUSE Town Under-21s and Bradford (Park Avenue) Under-19s had contrasting fortunes at the weekend, with the former going goal crazy in a 7-3 win at Silsden and latter collapsing to an awful 7-1 home defeat against Pontefract Collieries.

Town moved up to fourth place in the West Riding County FA Development League following that huge victory against Silsden.

They scored four times before the half-time break courtesy of goals from Callum Kenny (2), Regan Metcalfe and Tylan Rowe. Sam Gee came off the Brighouse bench to net a brace, including a penalty, and Metcalfe completed the scoring.

Barry Thomas, the Brighouse assistant manager said: "We hadn't played for a few weeks and it showed in the first 20 minutes as we struggled to find our rhythm and tempo as we went 1-0 behind.

"We slowly improved and led 4-2 at the break and in the second half, we started much brighter and began to dominate the game.

"We played at a much higher tempo and improved our passing which created a lot more chances. Regan Metcalfe was voted our man of the match."

Avenue remain bottom of the Northern Alliance League after slumping to that 7-1 defeat at the Horsfall Stadium against Pontefract.

Jack Atkinson in the Avenue goal made a fine save to deny Pontefract taking the lead and his team mate Jack Carter then saw his effort rattle the cross bar.

They could not stop the Collieries taking a healthy 4-0 lead into half-time though and Pontefract scored twice more after the break, before Avenue's Bradley Oliver scored into an empty net following an error by the goalkeeper.

This proved to be a mere consolation for his side as the visitors scored a seventh goal to complete the rout.

Alex Meechan, the Bradford manager said: "The match was very tough for our lads and individual errors cost us on the night. We were punished by the better team."

He went on to say: "The older players have to do more and the younger players have to learn fast."
