PUDSEY B were handed a tough start in Division Two of the Bradford League, with fixtures against two of the current top three teams, and they lost both matches heavily, only managing to win one set in each.

It was third time lucky however as Linda Sanderson produced a great performance at Highdale B to get them off the mark.

The Highdale trio of Geoff Barnes, Phil Mann and Mick Kosmowsky all have different styles, but Sanderson mastered them all and dropped only one game in winning her three singles and leading Pudsey's victory charge.

Doug Bartle added two, with Mick Burton taking one, and Sanderson completed an unbeaten evening by taking the doubles with Bartle for a 7-3 success.

In Division Three, the fixture list handed Hermits G two free weeks to start the season but they got off the mark in week three against Baildon C, thanks to league chairman Martin Jackson.

Hermits led from the start as Jackson won all of his three singles. Terry Halliday and Stephen Morris both won one each but Baildon stayed in contention thanks to a brace from Jerry Harkawy and one apiece from Stephen Hirst and James Kinsella.

Jackson and Halliday clinched the points for Hermits though, emerging as 3-0 winners in the doubles to ensure a 6-4 success overall.

In Division One, there was another man of the match performance from Yonatan Caspi, as Highdale A were victorious at Hermits A.

Caspi had to work hard for his three wins, going the distance in beating both Richard Aitken and Sam Clayton. Peter Morgan added two and Richard Whiteley one as Highdale triumphed 7-3.
