SALTS and Ovenden West Riding shared goals galore in Round One of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup, with the former winning 7-4 in a thriller.

West Yorkshire League side Salts dominated the first half and held a 5-1 advantage at the break, and Ovenden's spirited second half comeback proved to be in vain.

Adam Hartley and Pat Bilney scored two goals apiece for Salts, while Morgan Griffiths netted a brace for the losing hosts.

Meanwhile, Route One Rovers and Steeton Reserves both had 2-0 victories over West Yorkshire League opposition.

Danyal Yasin and Amad Yaqoob scored for Route One in their home victory over Howden Clough, while Will Knight was on target twice in Steeton Reserves' victory at Ripon City.

The pair have now been drawn to play each other in the second round next month

Craven League side Silsden Whitestar slipped out of the cup with a 3-0 defeat at Golcar United, with a Buddy Cox double ensuring an easy win for the County Amateur League leaders.

Visitors Hartshead won 1-0 at Lepton Highlanders thanks to a second half goal from Stuart Kiltie, while Ilkley Town went goal crazy against PFC. They ran out 9-0 winners, with Toby Harris netting four time for the hosts.

Field had an away day to remember as they thumped Carleton Sports Club 6-2, Lewis Forsythe coming off the bench to score a brace.

Craig Nicholls bagged his second successive four-goal haul as Rawdon also recorded a huge away win, 6-1 at AFC Crossleys, while Waqas Iqbal and Matthew Conway ensured an easy 2-0 win for Wyke Wanderers at a depleted Grangefield Old Boys.

West Yorkshire League Division One side Pool have made an indifferent start to life in the second tier following relegation, but they did not let that affect them in the cup.

They hammered Garforth Rangers (YAL) 7-1 away from home, with Jamie Algar and substitute Kostas Katsamagkas both at the double.

Oliver Durkin had a mixed day for Hunsworth. He scored their goal at Salts Reserves but he was also dismissed for two bookable offences as his side were knocked out with a 3-1 defeat.

Altofts also bowed out due to suffering a 4-2 defeat at home to Springhead, while Brighouse Old Boys lost 3-1 at Huddersfield YM.

There was also action in Round One of the West Riding County Challenge Trophy and Prospect dished out an almighty beating to their visitors Almondbury WMC.

They won 17-2, and although Jordan Farrell netted a hat-trick, he was still outscored by two players. Tristain Innes hit six and Johnny Holmes scored five on an incredible day for the hosts.

Horsforth St Margaret's fought bravely against unbeaten Huddersfield League opponents Dewsbury Town but they were always chasing shadows and never in front. Their scorers were Tom Chadwick and Stu Astall.

Finally, Fairbank United pulled off a shock 2-1 win at West Yorkshire Alliance opponents Carlton Athletic Reserves.

Captain Bilal Saleem put the visitors ahead from the spot, before Carlton struck the crossbar twice. Fairbank began to wrestle back control in the second period, and Shoaib Hussain poked home a second from a fine Hussain Iqbal cross.

They conceded with seven minutes remaining to leave the game in the balance, but managed to hold firm to progress through to the second round.
