ALBION Sports failed to build on their midweek win in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division as they were narrowly beaten at home by Barton Town.

The visitors created the better chances and enjoyed more possession early on and they finally edged in front two minutes into the second half through a great strike by Luke Aldrich.

The hosts drew level after 72 minutes following a handball in the area. The resulting penalty saw Albion’s Alhassane Keita send opposing keeper Tom Collins the wrong way from the spot.

Barton stole the three points though when substitute Gareth Barlow headed an 85th minute cross through home keeper George Clarke’s legs.

Albion's boss, Kulwinder Sandhu, said: “We weren’t good enough, it’s that simple.

“I was proud of the lads last week when we played with ten men and were the better side but lost 1-0 (against Staveley Miners Welfare) and in midweek when we beat Yorkshire Amateur, but some of our lads can’t play two games in a week.

“We had a few suspensions and some injuries and we had to throw three young lads in. It’s not their fault, but it’s difficult to win games with three or four changes. I think Barton were the better side and deserved their win.”

In Division One, Campion romped to a 5-1 home win over East Yorkshire Carnegie thanks to an excellent second half display.

Leon Hurles-Brook had given the hosts the lead before Ryan Williams levelled with a 35th minute penalty.

Goals from Graham Hall and Laurence Sorhaindo early in the second half put Campion in control and Jahro Parchment and Calum Ward also netted to give the home side a comfortable win.

Back in the Premier Division, Eccleshill United would have leapfrogged Bottesford Town with an away win and gone back into the top half but the Lincolnshire outfit eased to 2-0 home victory.

They were two goals up before the break after Lewis Bemrose opened the scoring in the fifth minute and Jack McMenemy added another ten minutes before half time. The defeat dropped the Eagles down to 13th.

Thackley also suffered an away defeat as Hemsworth Miners Welfare won 4-2 to go top.

They were overtaken by Knaresborough Town in midweek but the new leaders were held to a home draw yesterday while Hemsworth took a three point maximum from the Dennyboys.

The visitors broke the deadlock when James Rothel scored in the fifth minute, but the home side levelled through Nash Connolly on the stroke of half time.

An unfortunate own goal from the Dennyboys’ Kris Hargreaves just after the restart was soon cancelled out by a superb free-kick from Kieran Thompson.

Hemsworth then took the game away from their visitors with goals either side of the hour mark. Richard Collier put them back in front and Bradley Dockerty wrapped up the scoring.

Finally, a Joe Walton brace earned Liversedge a point from a 2-2 draw at Staveley Miners Welfare, as they built on a draw in midweek. Walton put the visitors in front but Joe Pugh levelled.

At the start of the second half, Walton gave his side the lead for the second time but Jahmal Riley grabbed the Trojans’ second equaliser in the 66th minute.
