FLYING Bulls winger Ethan Ryan has had an incredible individual season so far but admitted he would sacrifice all his 34 Betfred League One tries for victory over Workington Town in this week's play-off final.

Ryan scored a brace in Sunday's 47-0 semi-final thrashing of Oldham Roughyeds to leave Bradford one match away from the Championship.

And he said: "I'd give all of my tries away if it meant winning the final.

"It was a good week for me with winning the Young Player of the Year award and to cap it off with that win was perfect. But I'm thinking about the team, not me as an individual.

"We'll have a good week in training to get it right for Sunday and if we put in more of the same against Workington as we did in the semi-final, you'll see a win and Bradford back in the Championship."

Ryan felt the team worked perfectly as a unit against Oldham, and he was full of praise for some of the unsung heroes, saying: "The likes of Steve Crossley, Ross Peltier and Matt Garside are such workhorses.

"Having a great pack like that allows the likes of Joe Keyes and Dane Chisholm at half back the chance to flourish like they did."

The winger admitted that Crossley's pre-match words inspired the team, saying: "Steve said we weren't playing for two points, we were playing for promotion.

"His speech reiterated the importance of the game and his energy was there at the right time, just before kick-off, which was exactly what John (Kear) wanted.

"We really needed to bring our A-game, from one to 17, and we did that. Even when 'T' (Tuoyo Egodo) went off injured and Matty Storton had to go into the centre, it didn't shake us."

Ryan praised the team for their patience, with Oldham proving difficult to break down early on. He said: "The first 20 minutes were an arm-wrestle.

"It was only 6-0 for a while but you've got to earn the right to play and we did that early by keeping them from scoring. We did make the odd error but we always backed that up with good defence.

"We were under pressure but we stuck to it and our fitness and skill told in the end. The middles were great, we had high completion in defence and our attackers were sharp."
