FARSLEY Celtic Juniors are enjoying a fabulous start to the campaign and head the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division with maximum points after their fifth successive win, 5-2 against Stanningley Old Boys.

Their opponents conceded three poor first half goals from crosses, although James Allen reduced the arrears to 3-1 at half-time.

Stanningley played better after the break but within ten minutes, James Rainford was sent off for a poor challenge.

Dale McCormack made a couple of good saves to keep Stanningley in it and Allen completed his double to give them hope.

Farsley maintained their grip though and converted two more opportunities, with Ben Wilson completing his hat trick.

Louis Surtees was also on target and the wasteful Danny Lyons eventually got on the scoresheet late on.

Drighlington are second with 12 points out of 15 and they thrashed lowly hosts Ealandians 7-0. Shane Sowden netted twice for the visitors, while the other scorers were Dayle Kellett, Josh Frankland, Harvey Booth, Tom Farrar and an own goal.

Horsforth secured their first win since promotion after an impressive 4-0 thrashing of third-placed Grangefield.

A Grangefield spokesman lamented: "I can't remember us playing as badly as we did today.

"Plenty were missing but the players we did have on the pitch were more than capable and there's no excuses at all. Just one of those days and a really bad one at that."

James Watson scored twice, with Callum Walker and Greg Rowell bagging the other Horsforth goals on a lively pitch.

Stanley move up to eighth after their second win of the season, but Calverley United are bottom with only one point.

Calverley were kept at bay early on by the in-form Ben Hillyard, who put in a measured exhibition of goalkeeping.

The Stanley goals came from Dean Powell, Rhys Bruce and a second half own goal as they wrapped up a 3-0 win.

Athletico move up to seventh after thrashing second-bottom visitors Wibsey 7-2. It was one apiece at half-time but the hosts ran riot in the second half.

The display was lit up by Mohammed Qasim, who netted five superb strikes. The 21-year-old is an outstanding prospect who may soon find himself at a higher level.

Zeeshan Haider and Maline Malik also netted for Athletico, for whom skipper Muhammed Ikraaz showed his leadership skills with a stunning and energetic midfield display.

Championship side Beeston St Anthony's remain bottom after being thumped 9-1 at home by league leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys.

The hosts were 5-0 down at the break and more damage was inflicted in the second half as Gildersome extended their lead to 9-0, before Aaron Connor smashed in a free kick for a Beeston consolation.

Lee Thrush scored a hat-trick, while man of the match Reece Farnhill added two. Mike Hall also bagged a brace, while Conor Firth and Danny Norton completed the scoring for the visitors.

Ealandians Reserves were third with a 100 per cent record before this game, and they remain there despite a 9-1 drubbing at St Bedes Reserves on Saturday.

The hosts move up to fifth and the clear man of the match was Jermaine Moyce, who bagged six goals. His strikes were complemented by a couple from Joshua Moon and one from skipper Tahir Akram.

In Division One, Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves won a thriller 3-2 at Beeston Juniors Old Boys to move off the bottom of the table.

Young Cameron Whalley scored twice for Farsley and the third came courtesy of an 83rd minute strike from Tommy Vare.

Woodkirk Valley remain second on goal difference, despite losing to visitors Idle, who now have a 100 per cent record from three games.

Aaron Irving put Idle ahead but James Tesseyman soon restored parity. Irving struck again though just before half-time to give his side a 2-1 advantage. He completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute before his side comfortably played out time.

An early promotion clash in Division Two saw a close run encounter between Sandal Wanderers and Tyersal. The latter won 3-2 to preserve their unbeaten record and are only second on goal difference to Colton Athletic.

Ryan Pogson and Wayne Wright put Tyersal ahead twice but the game swung back and forth until a late winner from Josh Hyde, who was named man of the match. Wanderers' goals came courtesy of Will Oesterlein and Will Fowler.

Finally, promoted Shire Academics Reserves are not yet off the mark after losing 4-2 to a depleted Fairbank United, who grabbed their third win of the season to move into fourth.

United were 2-0 in front at the break, with both sides scoring twice after the interval. Junaid Ali, Shoaib Hussain, Hussain Iqbal and Bilal Saleem all netted for the victors.
