BRIGHOUSE Town Under-21s fell to a heavy 5-1 home defeat against Nostell Miners Welfare in the West Riding County FA Development League.

The hosts began the game well with their passing and movement, and deservedly took the lead through Finn Donovan. But with 15 minutes on the clock, Nostell began to take control of the game.

They hit back with three goals to take a 3-1 lead into half-time, before scoring twice more to secure all three points.

Barry Thomas, the Brighouse assistant manager, said: “Nostell were a very strong side and they were well organised, but we matched them for many periods of the game.

"The big difference between both teams was that Nostell were clinical in front of goal and we weren’t.”

Bradford (Park Avenue) U19s are still looking for their first point of the season following their 6-2 defeat at Horsfall Stadium against Huddersfield YMCA in the Northern U19 Alliance League.

Avenue lost the ball in midfield and missed tackles in defence which enabled Huddersfield to take an early lead but they levelled when their goalkeeper George Widdop's long punt went to Jordan Botwood, who gleefully took his chance.

Huddersfield restored their lead when their unmarked striker netted and the YMCA team scored a third goal from a corner to take a two goal advantage into half time.

A good mazy run and finish saw Huddersfield go further in front and another goal from a corner made it 5-1.

Some fine saves from the Avenue goalkeeper Widdop ensured the score did not reach double figures but Huddersfield did score one more time, before the hosts netted a consolation through Josh Mayfield.

Alex Meechan, Avenue's manager, said: "We played against a very good side and we held our own for periods of the game but we had a lapse in concentration too often."
