JOHN Kear was delighted with Bulls' Betfred League One play-off semi-final success over Oldham Roughyeds yesterday - declaring the 47-0 Odsal win as their best all-round performance of the season.

Bulls were 19 points ahead at the break, before four tries in eight second half minutes blew their opponents away and ensured a final showdown against Leon Pryce's Workington Town. Kear enthused: "That was our first 80 minute performance of the year. We were outstanding and it gives you some idea of the level we can play at.

"I would have taken an ugly 1-0 win so I'm delighted with 47 points. We worked really hard for each other and it's the best we've played."

The experienced Bulls coach prides himself on the team's defence, and the last 90 seconds saw his side dig deep to maintain their clean sheet.

He said: "I was pleased with the defensive ethos in Oldham's sets right at the end. The game was already won but that wasn't enough for the lads.

"I was as delighted with that as I was with the first 78 and a half minutes." Asked whether Bulls fans would be wondering where this level of performance had been all season, Kear replied: "Let's just enjoy how we've played and not look at the negatives.

"None of that matters as long as we get up. We wanted to go up automatically but we'll deal with what's there."

He refused to pick out any individual, saying: "I don't want to single anyone out and I would give the man of the match award to the team.

"Everyone brought their A-game, and when that happens, the team has an A-game."

Young stars Sam Hallas and Brandon Pickersgill were left out for this clash, but Kear said: "The team this week was specific for how we wanted to play against Oldham.

"They could come back for the Workington game, which not to sound arrogant, we have already done some preparation for."

He brushed off concerns that the two regular season defeats against the Cumbrians - who beat Doncaster 30-18 in yesterday's other semi-final - would influence next week's final at Odsal, saying: "Knockout games are different.

"I've enjoyed this week the most all season, and the opposition has just as much chance as you.

"Leon Pryce will say all the pressure is on us but we know different. There's just 80 minutes now between us and getting promoted."

Kear confirmed that Tuoyo Egodo was a huge doubt for next week's final after suffering a suspected hamstring tear yesterday.
